So today I did some testing/screening, and tomorrow I will finish up with the screening along side a physical. After that I'll be heading to boot camp this coming May!! I'm actually pumped, I literally had nothing going for me at this dead end job so it's about time I did something overly productive with myself, not to say I'm not aware of the hellish ride I'm in for but.. ANYWHOO- I was curious to know if there are any fellow marines here that could fill me in on what to expect as a gay (will be 21 in May) year old male in the corps. I haven't told the sgnt that I was gay or anything, but that's only because he didn't ask. I'm just a bit nervous as to what to expect from the other guys at camp, would I be "bullied"so to speak? I'm pretty open about my sexuality, not that I'm flamboyant because I'm really not, but there's just a gut feeling I may endure more negativity than your average (straight) marine at camp....
    Thanks in advance.

I am probably the least experienced person to really advise you on the subject matter, but....

Now that DADT is gone, there may be some residue left over of homophobia. If you are bullied, you'd need to make some pretty hardline evidence of misconduct. Also be aware that sometimes your sergeant may be giving you hard time, not because you're gay, but for other reasons.

My advice is just keep being the guy you are and serve your country with class and honor.

Also look search on the Pro Gay Servicemen/women and ask them about your thoughts and worries.

Thanks. Any advice helps, really, I wouldn't expect there to be too many marines here, but I guess I'll be able to be the one with first hand experience on the subject if anyone is curious in the future icon_smile.gif

They pulled the military members about DADT, for the most part no one gives a shit.

    Just do your job well.

Really want to know? You're in for a shit load of shit. How do you think the Corps will accept an open homosexual at this point in time just because Obama said you can serve?

I was a Marine, you weren't, so stop talking out your ass chainers. I know you weren't in because they'd never accept someone with that much back fat and screws loose.

    The question should be,

are there any straight marines? And how do they feel about being so ostracized?

I love that South Park skit where big gay Al performs at the USO show and they all go crazy.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Everybody else there is just as afraid as you, for different reasons.

    Congratulations and good luck icon_cool.gif

This topic reminds me of when I was about to join the marines, I did the training, and the testing and was ready to go and be shipped off to boot camp. But while on the downtime of waiting to be shipped out, I found out it wasn't for me, and oped out of it. Though I did meet some really nice guys at the training, and my roommate at the testing site was a really funny guy, and they treated me just like anyone else. Though this was all before boot camp though. :]

There are more closeted queers in the Marines than any other branch of the military. They usually join the Marines because they're trying desperately to prove they're "not gay". And they're almost always bottoms! icon_lol.gif

You say bottom like it's a bad thing. I've owned by bottomness from the get go. Think of something new, Cletus.

I happen to have VERY good friends in the Marines. My own brother was a Marine, so obviously I wasn't being serious. For someone who apparently has zero limits as far as your "humor" is concerned, you sure take other people's jokes awfully serious.

So now it's humor? I think you are just backtracking. And it wasn't "obvious", nor was it clever or funny.

    You're still an idiot, btw....
