Another drive-by media shot. Only in the mind of the ignorant or the liberal is a reduction in the rate of scheduled increases called "cuts". Obama WANTS people to feel pain so he can forcibly tax and spend more of your money, money that we no longer have. icon_rolleyes.gif

SO, METTA, WHAT IS YOUR OPINION???????

No president can ever raise taxes on his own, congress does that, and he either signs or vetoes it. And all the promises of increased revenue has achieved what exactly? It usually slows down an economy, and if there are any increases in revenue, the money is quickly pissed away, instead of used responsibly. And this calls for pointing out the fundamental disagreement we all have: Government is not God, all government spending is not wonderful and justified, government is not always competent and efficient (far from it), and the people should be allowed to keep a lot more of what they earn!! They don't need a grossly incompetent "government" to do everything for them. You want them out of our bedrooms, I want them out of my wallet.

Blakes7 and Rick_James, why don't you contact this guy and ask him why he's happy?"

Boehner: "When you look at this final agreement that we came to with the White House, I got 98 percent of what I wanted. I'm pretty happy."

For the hundredth time, it isn't a budget "cut", it's a reduction in the rate of a previously planned increase. Still an increase, so the use of the word "cut" is misleading at best, and an outright bold-faced LIE at worst. Sorry, left wing scare tactics, like those used in Obama's radio address this morning, are as transparent as a clean sheet of glass.

Both of those are staying open, as well as Pompano.

Boca, North Perry (where I work), and Tamiami are closing.

The only thing scary about it is the increased risk of midair collisions...which is VERY real.

The tower controllers just got the final email yesterday announcing that the closure is now set. As a result, they were stressed as hell and did a piss poor job of directing air traffic. As a result of that, I had TWO "near misses" (less than 20 feet separation between aircraft) in less than one minute.

I'm seriously considering quitting my job April 7 when the tower closes. There's no doubt in my mind a midair collision will happen within the first week after the closure. The airport I fly out of is VERY congested with flight training, helicopter training, transients, and banner tow operations.

    1) They can veto the spending bill and no Republican President has ever done that; therefore, the only conclusion is that a balanced budget was never a priority for Republican Presidents.

    2) There is no evidence to suggest that increasing taxes on the rich results in in reduced economic growth.

Finally please propose what spending you would like cut. I will start with mine:

    - Cut defense spending to 3% of the GDP.

    - Cut all direct and indirect corporate subsidies.

    - Cut all farm subsidies.

    - Make every Amtrak route at least break even.

    - Make every airport pay 100% of its expenses.

    - Make the Interstate Highway System 100% toll based.

My pet peave, as stated in an earlier post, is wealthy seniors collecting the max or almost the max amount of Social Security, on the backs of younger people still working. I think there should be a means test.

All good points, but the press and other always distracts us of these issues, when you purchase an airline ticket, remember what you are paying get imposed to your airline ticket:

    (1) There is the Federal Ticket Tax @ 7.5 %. which goes to the Airport and Airway Trust Fund (AATF)

    (2) Segment Tax - This tax is set at $3.70 and is charged per “flight segment”, meaning one take-off and landing. This money is also channeled to the Airport/Airway Trust Fund.

    (3) Passenger Facility Tax (PFC) Another “flight segment” tax and this one varies though it can cost as much as $4.50 per segment, but gets capped out at $18.

    (4) Sept 11- Security Fee $2.50 per segment (and it tops out at $10 per flight), and as you might expect, it funds the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)...yup I know I have not much confidence on those TSA agents.

Most administration refuse to tap the AATF because it would disrupt the budget...so when they say they are making cuts...pure bullshit!icon_rolleyes.gif Its pure waste of money.

    Agree X infinity icon_neutral.gif

A few races to the outer marker and/or some asshat who dosent know how to read sectionals/TERPS will not end well. Sure, there are some closures that make sense....but unmanning towers in Central/South Fla, SoCal,most of the northeast and Chicagoland is totally insane. As usual, the only way things change with the FAA involves killing people.

Le sigh... I don't even know where to begin.

It almost makes you wish they could throw out all the laws and policies pertaining to budget, such as the entire tax code, subsidies, how departments are funded etc, then completely rebuild them.

But that is next of kin to impossible. It is such a tangled web, an utter mess, like a giant knot of yarn; you don't know how to start pulling at the threads to make it unravel.

But all of that is a ridiculous hypothetical...
