    Seriously.

We all have qualities that are nerd like. Why do some more than others try to hi light their uniqueness by clinging onto something that is so common nowadays?

Who here thinks they are a nerd?

Lemme tell you something "nerds".... You aren't that special!!!!

FYI... True nerds are waytodawn and Roadrage. I don't exactly see any of y'all lining up to get in their pants.

Face it.... When you say "nerds" are sexy you mean you want a stereotypical meathead that wears glasses. GTFO!!!

    Wow, pretentious much.

People can call themselves nerds if they like, and I don't see how it's of any concern to you.

Goes without saying, there's more than one kind of nerd. A nerd is one who obsesses and is intellectual about a certain subject, often to the point where it impairs their social interactions when the subject comes up . For example, I'm a geology and video game nerd. And then there are shopping nerds, and chemistry nerds, and history nerds, and antiquing nerds, and....

    I could go on.

Point being, everyone has their own nerdy tendencies. Even sports-goers nerd out about game strategies, team management, and statistics.

Don't pretend that you have to be a part of some elite corps to be a nerd. To be a nerd is to be human!

Exactly my point. All those numb nuts in the nerd lover thread are claiming they are nerds. That's like being proud of being right handed. Who gives a flying fuck?

Do I mind "nerds"? Not necessarily. But I won't spread eagle just because they read comics like some guys will.

Gimme a break. I doubt ANY of y'all would have given bill gates or that Steven Hawkins guy the time of day if they weren't famous. Lets keep it real!!!!

My point was I don't see why you care.

And why did you have to make a separate topic about it? icon_confused.gif

well, a lot of people think they're smarter and weirder than what they really are. that isn't often the case. icon_lol.gif a lot of people can't accept the fact they're normal or the average human being and that there's a lot of people that they share things in common with.

that doesn't mean anything. there's plenty of guys with high iqs that are street sweepers and working menial jobs that never graduated high school. it's that they may not have had the same opportunities that others may have had where they be able to make something of their smarts and other things that might have came into play. there's plenty of dumbasses that look nerdy and have PhD's.

I think people can label themselves however they like.

I am interested in science and technology, I wear glasses, I have decent grades and writing ability, but at the same time I do like to be fit and I am not necessarily shy. Given all that I do think I could label myself as a nerd and I do.

Let's define terms first. Straight from daviswiki.org/Geeks:

Not so long ago, the derogatory terms "geek," "nerd," and "dork" were used interchangeably. Current usage is starting to separate the terms into orthogonal components. In this view, dorks are socially challenged individuals, nerds are people interested in intellectual or academic pursuits, and geeks are people fascinated, perhaps obsessively, by obscure or very specific areas of knowledge and imagination. Geek is the most general and positive of the three terms and lends itself to plenty of geek subcultures.
