    THEY SIMPLY CANNOT HELP THEMSELVES.

McClatchy Washington BureauJUNEAU, Alaska — Rep. Don Young's use of an ethnic slur to describe the California farmworkers who picked tomatoes for his father threatens to become an embarrassment for a Republican Party trying to court Latino voters.

Speaking with a reporter for community radio KRBD during an Easter recess visit to southeast Alaska, the 79-year-old Young launched into one of his trademark diatribes against the federal government. Then, according to an audio clip and news story posted on the station's website, Young moved on to a discussion of the economy and automation, offering up a personal example.

"I used to own - my father had a ranch. We used to hire 50 to 60 w*tbacks to pick tomatoes. You know it takes two people to pick the same tomatoes now. It's all done by machine."

Bloggers quickly picked up on the interview Thursday, and by 7 p.m. in Alaska, Young's office released a statement in which Young said he "meant no disrespect." But Young stopped short of apologizing.

"During a sit-down interview with Ketchikan Public Radio this week, I used a term that was commonly used during my days growing up on a farm in Central California," Young said in the statement. "I know that this term is not used in the same way nowadays and I meant no disrespect."

Any other "commonly-used terms" from your childhood you wish to share in 2013... Congressman? icon_evil.gif

Juneau EmpireHe added that during the interview, he had "discussed the compassion and understanding I have for these workers and the hurdles they face in obtaining citizenship" and said the country must tackle the issue of immigration reform.

Reaching out with "compassion and understanding" to people with childhood slurs is like building a Bridge to Nowhere, Congressman!

At least the GOPhers are slowly getting better with their swift rebukes!

TalkingPointsMemo“Congressman Young’s remarks were offensive and beneath the dignity of the office he holds," (House Speaker John) Boehner (R-Ohio) said in a statement. "I don’t care why he said it – there’s no excuse and it warrants an immediate apology.

TheHill“Migrant workers come to America looking for opportunity and a way to provide a better life for their families,” (Senate Minority Whip John) Cornyn (R-Texas), the second-ranking Senate Republican, said in a statement on Friday.

They do not come to this country to hear ethnic slurs and derogatory language from elected officials,” he said. “The comments used by Rep. Young do nothing to elevate our party, political discourse or the millions who come here looking for economic opportunity.”

Don Young is an ongoing embarrassment to his party, but the conservatives will love him even more because he uses hate-speech to bash Latinos.
But what's even worse is that his whole career is marked by relentless corruption and inappropriate conduct.
He's currently under investigation by his own party in Congress for his history of taking bribes and using millions of taxpayer dollars to reward his shady campaign contributors. (This is what counts as "fiscal conservatism"? FAIL.)

Where does the GOP continue to find idiots like this who say things that will be wildly unpopular and inappropriate? Do you have to fail an intelligence test to qualify as a GOP candidate?

By the way, the Republican's efforts to improve their image with Latino voters seems to be going great! Keep up the great work, GOP. icon_lol.gif
