Yeah, I've noticed this new trend and seen it rear its ugly head in the comments sections of newspapers during coverage of the recent Supreme Court hearing on marriage equality.
It's kind of like saying, "What? You don't believe that the Pope is the vicar of Christ on earth. How dare you impinge on my religious liberty and my notions of Church. You must die."
Or, "What? You believe that the Pope is not the vicar of Christ on earth. How dare you impinge on my religious liberty and my notions of Church. You must die."
And, of course, in the not too distant past, people really did say such stuff and backed it up with ugly, violent action.
Just pure hatred and intolerance.
Of course, when it comes to homophobes using the pseudo-religious-liberty argument, it shows that they are desperate. They know they are losing because they have lousy arguments which most of the country no longer buys. Life is hard for homophobes, including the religiously inspired, today.
