Yeah, I've noticed this new trend and seen it rear its ugly head in the comments sections of newspapers during coverage of the recent Supreme Court hearing on marriage equality.

It's kind of like saying, "What? You don't believe that the Pope is the vicar of Christ on earth. How dare you impinge on my religious liberty and my notions of Church. You must die."

Or, "What? You believe that the Pope is not the vicar of Christ on earth. How dare you impinge on my religious liberty and my notions of Church. You must die."

    Etc., etc.

And, of course, in the not too distant past, people really did say such stuff and backed it up with ugly, violent action.

    Just pure hatred and intolerance.

Of course, when it comes to homophobes using the pseudo-religious-liberty argument, it shows that they are desperate. They know they are losing because they have lousy arguments which most of the country no longer buys. Life is hard for homophobes, including the religiously inspired, today.

It`s becoming similar here in the UK.

An ex-Archbishop of Canterbury, George Carey, recently complained Christians felt they were being marginalized by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government, most particularly in its decision to legalized gay marriage by 2015. It represented the tip of a 'aggressive secularist agenda' against people of faith ie Christians!

I think because we have an established church here, Christians tend to think having all sorts of exclusive priveleges is normal and fair. They tend not to talk about how they`ve successfully lobbied for them over many years. Unfortunately, they`re now beginning to lose them and it must be disturbing for them, after some many centuries on top, to have to deal with others on an equal basis. They`re enforced dominance has ultimately given them poor arguments to deal with other people.

They rarely mention the church`s own persecutions, or the really nasty inter-denominational fights of history like the Reformation/counter-Reformation, etc.
