I'm moving to Miami icon_cool.gificon_cool.gificon_cool.gif for school and work around June and am planning on staying there for at least four years. With that said, I was just wondering if anyone is willing to give lovely advice on what its like there.

I'll be near Edgewater just to give ya an idea of where I'm looking around. I've never been, but am planning a visit soon so I'm sure I'll get a feel for everything, I'm just trying to know what to expect.

(I've only lived in Philly and Providence so I'm assuming Miami is a world apart)

Any good living advice around that area would be appreciated too since I gotta find a 1 bedroom that accepts a beagle kinda fast and that isn't too pricey. icon_eek.gif

    Thanks guys. icon_biggrin.gif

I'm not familiar with Edgewater area, but I do know that finding inexpensive housing around here is really difficult.

I know a decent amount of Spanish and I do realize it's insanely expensive. So we'll see. If anything I'll just be homeless. At least its warm. icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Miami is a great city. But with Like any place, it's what you make it. Any specific questions you have?

Edge water is a decent area. Pretty much close to the Midtown/wynwood neighborhoods.

Best of luck to you. A lil white boy from Pennsylvania? those animalistic latinos will be all over you. So be careful.

Also, dont worry about knowing Spanish, you're white no one will expect u to know it. I grew up in south FL and lived in Miami Shores for 7 years.... I didn't (and still dont) know any Spanish....and got on just fine.

    Good luck, sounds exciting!

Been in So Florida for 13 years now.... its all what you make of it. Not too much into Miami but north of there about 20 min (without traffic) where I live, Ft. Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, Oakland Park you can still find decent priced housing and very a gay friendly atmosphere.

As far as speaking Spanish, yes I would say the majority in Miami Dade speak Spanish but of course you will still get by with English.

Good luck and enjoy your stay.... You will love the winter weather.icon_biggrin.gif

I hope you have a lot of patience because the average person there moves and drives at half speed most of the time.

This in bold! As someone who has a permanent tan, it's under the assumption that I speak Spanish. White guys have it made in South Florida! icon_biggrin.gificon_wink.gif
