Last day on Realjock....Why?

After being a member for 10 years today will be my last day on Realjock. Why? Cause I was a fool and got scammed by a current member.

Short story....this past fall I befriend a member who was having major financial issues as well as personal issues. Out of the kindness of my heart, which now I regret, I loaned him money. He promised to pay me back at the end of December. It is now April 2 and still payback. The guy has had many excuses (two deaths in his family, car wreck, robbed, etc). When I told him that he "really" needed to pay me back he turned the situation around on me saying that I was hateful and that if I continued to ask for the money he would come to Denver to get back at me. I finally stopped communication.

I reported this individual, who was actually voted Man of the Day last week, to Realjock but since he is still around I assume nothing was done.

I will miss the friends I've made on here but I think its best that I remove myself from this site.

    Best wished to all.

    That sucks.

This is pretty much the reason why I'm only willing to loan money in amounts that I'm okay with parting with forever.

This, this all the money in the entire world.
You loan money out of the goodness of your heart and when you want it back, all of a sudden you are the dick for wanting your money paid back. Yeah, that's why you never loan money, ever. Gift, or nothing.
But if you want to gift money to Internet doofuses, left me be the first to get some of that cash.
Oh, by the way, care to share the whoring rip off con man hottie who so expertly played you? Currently I am guessing calibro, only cause he owes me close to fifty grand, but he says he all good for it.

Wow! You are indeed very kind to loan this guy money 'cuz I would have said "fuck off" from the beginning. But I understand your reason to leave! Good luck!

So, you're ready to lose friends or end your friendship because of 1 con man?
My advice- Forget the scammer, not the friends...or else, you'll regret it :-/
A friend is infinitely more valuable than losing an enemy!...

You're kinda blaming RJ for your own stupidity.

Why would u lend someone, who you've never met money?

It was very kind of u indeed, but it seems like common sense u dont go lending money to people you've never met or dont know like that. I think it's beyond dumb to do that. I hope u learned a lesson. It's a shame someone has taken advantage of ur kindess, it really is. But again, you should have known the risk.... dont blame RJ and leave the site cuz u aint get yo money back from some dude.

hmm now that I think about it he is kinda right.

and you did state that you lent some guy who was MOTD money, meaning this guy must have been hot, and you let your vanity over rule your logic.

    consequences suck.

Dude, that sucks. But it's not RJs responsibility to do anything about it. This is a private matter between you and that individual.

I don't think you should blame the site or the community here for this guy taking advantage of you. People vote for Man of the Day purely on hotness, not on how nice they are.

    Best of luck to you.

Hope you'll change your mind and not quit. RJ can't enforce things like this. Don't let a bad apple cause you to leave the site.

Pls pay attention. He loaned the money in December and the guy was made MotD last week. And no, MotD isn't necessarily about being hot. It's a rather arbitrary system of appreciation. Maybe he got it because he is a charmer to a lot of people, like he was to the OP.

Departed OP, sorry you encountered a con artist. From the sounds of it, the deaths, robbery, car accident, he was a liar. Unless you have something in writing and his personal information, there's not much I can suggest to get your money back.

It's a sucky lesson to learn, but there's no place for trust on the internet.

Tangent: this site has been going for 10 years? I wonder when everyone will ditch it for a younger, hotter site.

I'm pretty sure I understood the situation. Even if he just loaned the money, what motive drove him to lend it to a complete stranger? that he had no clue who he was? and never met. There had to be a reason.

Even if he wasn't man of the day when they first started talking, his looks while talking to him was still there. If anything being MOTD only implies that he was good looking enough to get more then just a vote from the OP.

The pieces of the puzzle are starting to fit, at least in my eyes.

Hmmm. OP blaming RealJock for your OP's own poor judgement?

On what else might anybody blame RealJock?

"I'm out of shape, because I'm online with RealJock too much!"
"I eat too much bacon because of all the Bacon Appreciation threads on RealJock and now I have high cholesterol!"
"I am paralyzed from the waist down because somebody on RealJock told me to go jump off a cliff!"

Abstracting up, and I know it kind of sounds cold, but few people really care when somebody posts a "drama llama" goodbye to RealJock thread. We either see you back again, or you're just gone for good.

There are a lot of extremely gullible and overly trusting people on RJ. It's no wonder the trolls love coming here so much.

Even in real life, it's a bad idea to loan somebody money. Loaning someone money over the Internet is a horrible mistake. If someone needs help, and you have the resources to do so, it's better to give them money as a gift and not expect repayment. If you really feel the need to loan someone money, get everything in writing - the loan amount, the amount to be repaid, and the schedule for repayment. Does no one watch Judge Judy?

TheGuyNextDoor saidI've heard this very same story by another RJ member about the guy holding the silly iPad in the mirror to take his picture. You can go figure out who I'm talking about. It's does not surprise me to hear it again.

Sorry to hear of you loss. Don[t do it again. Polonius was right - "Neither a borrower nor a lender be . . ."

FWIW, you can always sue the guy, and use emails as proof of the loan. Who knows, you might get a judgment against him, and in ten years maybe collect something back?

Does anyone have a reference to the post about " story by another RJ member about the guy holding the silly iPad in the mirror to take his picture" ?
I vaguely remember this, but can't seem to find it. I would hate to be suspicious of some totally innocent guy, just because of the clues above (which lead to a guy who has a number of frequent posters - including DIN, Larkin, Chainers, and Socalfitness - among his "mutual buddies.")
