When a Muslim fraternity from the University of Texas at Dallas took to the streets to protest against domestic violence, these striking pictures made waves around the world. Muslim America rocks — we just don’t hear about it often.

Lets hope that we see much more of this as well as support for GLBT rights.

I whole heartedly agree with Meta. I have a Muslim friend from high school who, when HRC promoted changing peoples' profile pictures to the red equals sign, publicly posted her status saying that her "...religion teaches that only God may judge, which is why I support equal rights for all."

Muslim here... I just think some idiots read things they want to and end up interpreting it that way too! Islam doesn't condemn women to no rights!!! Some religious people irritate me!!! Great post on the matter though!icon_biggrin.gif

That's great. I'd be more impressed if they were protesting violence and terrorism committed in the name of Islam or protesting in favor of gay rights. Come on, really now, while I applaud their jesture, it takes no guts to protest against domestic violence. There's really no story here. This is sort of like a story about a dog biting a man. What's the big story?

    Cute guys though.

wow you must really have a negative image of muslims in the US to be that surprised to see muslims supporting women's rights haha

I'm from Morocco , it still has a long way to go and I still hear horrific things from some older people and ignorant assh*les but most people my age wouldn't dare question women's rights.

You should know that most muslims are against terrorism, and keep in mind that terrorists also attack muslims. There was a terrible terrorist attack in Casablanca in 2003 , that kiled 42 people, most of whom were moroccan muslims.

Now , homosexuality, that's another problem. It's terrible how little it is accepted by muslims and I think it will be a while before you see muslims marching for the legalization of gay marriage ( which is an absolute shame )

It's great to see Muslims doing something right, though it does go against their religion: Qur. 4:34 and Qur. 33:59, among other verses that call for wife-beating and the subjugation of women. Hopefully Islam as a whole can modernize like these people did.

The prospect of how ignorant some people are is just laughable. Islam will and has never be in favour of limiting or hindering the right of women. Like I always say, only the extremely conservative Islamic leaders will say anything in contrary. Some people like to hide under the canopy of religion to mislead society and it is up to those willing to learn to truly understand the true principle of Islam on this issue.

absolute rubbish:XD If they read the Quran very well, I'm sure they will be aware that it is a great sin to conceal your religion.

Ever try protesting against domestic violence on behalf of (straight) male victims? See what kind of backlash that gets you, then come back and tell us all about how easy it is protesting against DV
