This is significant because of the burgeoning tourist industry around Banjul and the Gambia River. Gay men or women traveling to any African nation should check the US consular sheet of facts and warnings where, I'm sure, this would be mentioned in the Gambian section.

Concerning the LGBT community inside the nation's border, a statement like this could help those fleeing the country obtain refugee status particularly in countries where gay marriage is now legal. In fact, I believe flights between Banjul and Paris are somewhat frequent and relatively inexpensive if memory serves.

I hope to god anyone in countries like Rwanda, The Gambia, Equatorial Guinea, etc. find the umbrage to live a safe and open life.

Because UNO is nothing but a well organized corporation that makes people believe that it acts for them without any personal motives, whereas in reality it is a corporation maintained by all governments that works for profit of private corporations.
sad but true. Occasionally it may work for people, not for the sake of caring fellow humans, but to avoid complete criticism and maintain its primary motives.

From the State Department's wesite: U.S. Assistance to The Gambia

U.S. assistance supports democracy, human rights, girls' education, and the fight against HIV/AIDS. In addition, the Peace Corps maintains a large program with about 100 volunteers engaged in the environment, public health, and education sectors, mainly at the village level. The United States also provides military assistance to The Gambia.

The US taxpayers are the biggest suckers in the world. With all the issues we have here on our own soil, this country needs to stop giving aid to depots around the globe. It's why we are hated the world over - our government supports idiots like the one in Gambia and elsewhere. I say let them live in poverty and ignorance. They seem to be most comfortable there.

I don't care how small a miniscule fraction of the GDP the aid may be; it's time to stop wasting it overseas in two bit Muslim shit holes like Gambia.

Sometimes a penny spent now saves a dollar later. Aid to this country may be just the thing preventing it from turning genocidal. I think we should use our money to leverage civilization; starving it never seems to bring civilization any faster.

It would be interesting to know how much money the US taxpayer has thrown down the shit hole that is Gambia to produce the civilized genius running the place now?
