What does the RJ community think about the following statistics from the CDC?

    http://www.naturalnews.com/039788_STD_CDC_venereal_disease.html

How responsible are gay men towards their sexual health? Are there health tests to determine STD status in the same way HIV status is determined?

Probably most guys on RJ are more knowledgeable than the overall gay population on STDs and sexual health in general, and a higher percentage of them practice safe sex. The highest rates of new HIV infections among gay men iin the USA are among the young, and african-americans, especially in rural areas, where new HIV rates are rapidly increasing. Lack of knowledge about HIV and being in the closet are probably the most significant causes of HIV in these populations.

There are tests for individual STDs, and sexually active people should get tested regularly - not only when they have symptoms - few do. It's a minefied out there.

Unfortunately, even practicing safe sex is no guarantee against getting an STD, as many of them are transmitted skin-to-skin, rather than via an exchange of bodily fluids. Some STDs have no outward symptoms, so you really never know 100% if you're at risk, regardless of how safe you are. You might be protected from HIV, but there are other things you can get pretty easily that are not particularly pleasant.

I'm single and sexually active, and I practice safe sex. That doesn't mean that I won't get an STD, though. The smart thing to do is to be as discerning as possible, and get tested regularly.

All I know is that some guys think they are funny or gets them more pleasure that while making out they can just spit on their dick and try to fuck you without protection. Get F* out of my bed.

If you're looking for something that you can buy like a pregancy testing kit... just pee on a stick... no.

You need to get tested by a doctor. Many cities have clinics devoted to this purpose (and other aspects of sexual health).

I've found many of the younger guys I run into say things like how bare backing feels so much better. It is protection or nothing with me but I feel like that new college age generation has not experienced the pain of an STD or HIV within family or friends so they act as if it will never impact them.

I'm honestly more worried about the chance of an STD. It is quite possible to spread an STD but have no symptoms.

    I agree...

because STD's exhibit no symptoms, then everyone is suspect....... so worrying.

Essentially, even if a partner is HIV negative, he is still a potential carrier of STDs from his past relationships....

again I ask.... is there a test of series of tests that screens for all of these STDs? If through a medical doctor, what are the names of these tests?

Thanks to all that have responded.

You don't really ask for the tests by name. At a sexual health clinic they'll usually just test for all the known ones and pay particular attention to ones they know are currently spiking within the gay community.

However if you wish to find out more about STI/STD testing, how to protect your self and others and anything else to do with sexually transmitted infections then

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/std-testing/ID00047

I'd recommend you spend some time readying the mayoclinic website which is very neutral in it's handling of information and lays out the process that should be followed.
