See the first fact, only 900,000 out of 9 million are in a relationship.

    That means 90% are single. I thought it's 70%.

    Wow....

If there are 900,000 couples, that means there are 1,800.000 in relationships, exactly twice as many as you suggest. Twenty percent, in fact.

And that 9,000,000 figure is only of those who self-report as gay in a recent survey. It doesn't include closet cases or those who amusingly think of themselves as "ex-gay". The true figure is probably 15,000,000.

and 140 percent of those couples are open relationships, three-way relationships, fooling around with married men, incestuous/bestial/polygamous/pedophilic couplings, etc.

Where did they get 9 million from? 3% of 300 mil population? (US was at 314 mil last year).

3% seems a bit low for gay population, I'd wager its closer to 5%.

Or higher. And what constitutes a gay couple? Legally married in those few US States that permit it? Or couples living together, or in some other LTR? Is this self-reporting, or based on official US & State government figures, both of which have serious flaws for tracking the LGBT population. This is statistical guesswork and invalid. icon_razz.gif

Then you have my admiration. icon_wink.gif

But you raise a valid point, because these statistical studies are likely based on traditional het relationship models. And legal ones.

What are they tracking, as I wrote above? Registered marriages & civil unions? Those are limited by US State law against LGBT persons in most cases. Or reported relationships? Or both? This is not real good science, unless we can see more of the study data.

I'm single because I choose not to be coupled with someone who I'd hate after the physical attraction.

Wow 9 million does seems unproportional, if only we all exodus and inhabit a single State. Coup d'etat, we'll call it New California.

Out of curiosity, for all the people that throw out numbers like this, does anyone actually have any fact to support it, or is it complete BS based on wishful thinking and faulty logic?

The most recent number published is that 3.5% of the Us population is LGBT in a study done by the Williams Institute in 2011, and this agrees with the official US census. Any other value is just uneducated guesswork.

My guess is those numbers are derived from the 2010 census. Things to keep in mind: as some one else mentioned, if they're 900,000 couples, that means there are 1.8 million in a relationship. Furthermore, if these numbers are from the census (which I would bet you they are), then those are just couples that are likely cohabitating. Therefore, many gays included in that statistic likely have a boyfriend but are not counted as a "same sex" couple. Consequently, there are also many LGBT who opt not to disclose their sexual preference, also factually misrepresenting the gross number of gays in the country.
