A friend of mine is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu and is training for a professional fight in December. His trainer has advised him to forego sex from now until after the fight "because it will sap your energy and weaken your legs." I thought I had read that that type of thinking is "Old School"; that there's no ill effect from having sex during an intense training cycle. What's the newest info on that topic? Thanks.

thats really not true. Sometimes you'll hear coaches tell their athletes to not have sex the night before a game, but it really doesn't matter. It doesn't impede on performance or for this matter, weaken your legs or drain energy.

(guess it also depends on what position you do ;) ) but no sex doesn't interfere with any physical activity, as long as you get rest/sleep

Put yourself in a sling or bend over a saw horse...no strain on the legs. icon_wink.gif

I have been studying energy work... Reiki etc. They is a change in energy for sure. Sex energy seems to be centered around the kidneys but all body functions are related.

It not that it drains your energy, but you o feel a lot more relaxed. Just out of experience the frustration of having sexual tension makes my workouts more worthwhile ;)

Having sex while I'm training makes me more relaxed and focused----tensions are released and I'm in a better frame of mind to hit it hard in training

I have a friend who trains in MMA. He was told to refrain from sex not because it drains energy, but because they wanted to channel his pent up frustration in the fight. So it wasn't to refrain completely during training, but to refrain several days prior to a fight...not 2 months.

I wouldn't underestimate the power and potency of sexual energy...by using this energy you are tapping a resource of your body's natural power. Also by storing this energy you are preserving the energy associated with blissfulness, sexual power, true-self, intuition, center of gravity and concentration. Remember that your life was created by an expression of this exact energy...it would be an ignorant man who ignores the energy from which he was created.

    Sounds almost tantric.

There is a belief in eastern philosophies that ejaculation does result in a loss of energy. That's probably why.

I agree 26mileman. Some of my best race times were the result of having sex early the previous evening and then enjoying a good night's rest. So I did both--released some tension, got a good rest, and raced well the next morning! It beats carbo loading lol
