Obviously this is tragic for Rick Warren's family, and I'm sorry for their loss.
But just as tragic are all the deaths of the countless young gay people who are driven to suicide by the climate of persecution and hostility that Rick Warren has contributed to for years, with his relentless hate campaign of anti-gay propaganda.
Every parent of a gay suicide victim went through the same extremes of grief that Rick Warren is going through now. The difference is that Warren is directly responsible, in part, for so much tragedy and so many grieving families. The saddest part is so many of those deaths would have been 100% avoidable -- if only we didn't have a conservative-evangelical hate machine attacking young, vulnerable people and making their lives miserable.
I have no illusions that Warren will make any of these connections and change his ways, and end the hate campaign against gay Americans.
So yes, this is tragic all around.
