Incredibly sad. Any chance he was gay and couldn't deal with it? Whatever the issues, it's terribly sad. Losing a child is just unimaginable and one that has been in your life for so long must be devastating.

His son experienced deep depression since birth. Nothing ever really helped him. It was a life long battle, sadly for just 27 years, for this young man. Experiencing a mental illness that powerful your whole life, there is only so much that your family can do for you.

It is very sad that anyone feels they have reached the point that death is their only escape. But I've always respected a person's right to choose whether they live or die.

What's TRULY very sad that it wasn't Rick Warren instead! icon_mad.gif

In 2005, Warren told Fortune magazine that “he would counsel gays and lesbians to adopt a heterosexual lifestyle” and later explained that gay people are immature. “We all have biological predispositions,” Warren explained during an interview with TODAY in December of 2008. “You say because I have natural impulses to the same sex, I shouldn’t have to reign them in. Well I disagree. I think that’s part of maturity, I think that’s part of delayed gratification, I think that’s part of character.” In 2008, the website for Warren’s Saddleback Church also explicitly said that “someone unwilling to repent for their homosexual lifestyle would not be accepted as a member at Saddleback.” The language has since been changed.
The pastor had initially refusing to condemn condemn Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill — which would make certain homosexual acts punishable by death — insisting that it wasn’t his “personal calling” to “comment or interfere in the political process of other nations.” When he finally did issue a statement distancing himself from the measure, Warren reiterated his belief that being gay is a sin.

Just another example of an ignorant religious republican causing more harm than good. World would be a better place WITHOUT HIM, than his son.

icon_sad.gif My father died of the same thing and the irony is he made me realized when I was a child that life happens once and take care of it... R.I.P.

I knew someone who killed himself the same way at age 26, he too, suffering with self medicated depression for years. It's such a devastation and a waste. I think about him and his family every day. Very sad.

Obviously this is tragic for Rick Warren's family, and I'm sorry for their loss.
But just as tragic are all the deaths of the countless young gay people who are driven to suicide by the climate of persecution and hostility that Rick Warren has contributed to for years, with his relentless hate campaign of anti-gay propaganda.
Every parent of a gay suicide victim went through the same extremes of grief that Rick Warren is going through now. The difference is that Warren is directly responsible, in part, for so much tragedy and so many grieving families. The saddest part is so many of those deaths would have been 100% avoidable -- if only we didn't have a conservative-evangelical hate machine attacking young, vulnerable people and making their lives miserable.
I have no illusions that Warren will make any of these connections and change his ways, and end the hate campaign against gay Americans.
So yes, this is tragic all around.

    This covers it, pretty much.

I really hope Rick does see the biting irony here.
