Title is self explanatory icon_smile.gif. I'm here Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.

Recommended gay bars? I pretty much never go to them. What I care about most is one that plays good music at night (i.e. stuff with a good dance beat, none of this slow rnb/rap, and pop/popular music BS). Recommendations?

    Thanks! icon_smile.gif

American Chemical Society .... sounds like you may need a drink after a or two of talking about how to get more chemicals into our food supply.

Come on guys roll out the suggestions for this man in need.

    What are you looking for?

PM me and perhaps I can steer you in the right direction.

Around the French Quarter, Burbon sreet, between St. Ann and Esplanade is "Gay central" for bars and gay guys.

Oz and Corner Pocket in the French Quarter are probably the most well-known.

Don't be a bitch. Google doesn't hold a candle to someone with personal experience, which is what the OP was asking for.

The Bourbon Pub and that dance bar across the street from it are good bets just to start.......and the Lafitte In Exile 1 blk up the street, oldest gay bar in the south (there is even a recent book on it, have not gotten it yet).

Go to Bourbon and St. Anne and take your pick. Just don't miss Good Friends a block over and Cafe Lafittes a little further up Bourbon. NIce thing about New Orleans if you don't like one, your other options are just right across the street.

    How true!

Doing "The Fruit Loop" of the gay bars is a New Orleans Sunday evening French Quarter tradition for many Gay Guys.

A short taxi ride (or a medium walk) into the area adjacent and to the east of "da quatta" will bring you to the neighborhoods of Marigny and Bywater, the best "gayborhoods" in New Orleans, IMO. This is the residential gay areas for many of us. Restaurants, gay bars, night clubs, and "open minded" guys & gals abound in these neighborhoods.

Cool. Thanks for the info! I am not sure if I am going to have much time to do anything but I am gonna try to make it down there at least one night. It will be interesting cause I have never gone to a bar alone before.

All of above stated options are good. Personally, I like Good Friends and Lafitte's. Less drama than Oz and the Pub. JMHO.

Also—you know the ACS has an LGBT Chemists and Allies group, right?

Here are some of the events going on at the conference that might be of interest:

    https://communities.acs.org/message/13142#13142

You should go to one and meet some other gay chemists :-) Then you won't have to go to the bar alone!

Awesome. I've been very involved in the physics equivalent. Google LGBT physicists if you want to hear more.

Let's all help to make science inclusive for LGBT+ people!

Shawnathan saidACS has an LGBT group?!?! That's kinda cool. Everyone always says to meet guys doing things you love.

I'm preparing a paper for an ACS publication (ES&T) right now. I don't know if it's good enough to get accepted though.

    Good luck with the paper!

Physics, Astronomy and Chemistry all have LGBT+ groups in various stages. Please join one of them and help make science inclusive for everyone!

You're in one of the most accepting cities in the U.S. There is no need to seek out a gay bar here! The gay bars are lame as fuck.

LOL. For some reason, ASM was in NO for like, 3 out of 5 years at one point. I think I was in some of those places, but too blitzed to realize that they were "gay bars." After that, I've been too burned out on the place to even go out when I'm there.
