From what I just read, his statement is not an endorsement for the equality of gay people. All he has done at least by what that article says is to use gay people to reinforce his idea of coupling.
I see this as less an endorsement for equal rights than I do as a denouncement of single people, of people "living in sin" even if they are sin. Oh noooos.
