it just occurred to me that i've never told any of you about the blog i'm trying to build/expand. it seeks to refute stereotypes about exotic dancers, and gives a human story to what i do. i get very tired of the assumptions that are lobbed at me, so this is the way i answer the various questions, comments, and experiences i come up against in this particular career.

anyway, if you are interested please feel free to visit:
    www.devonhunter.info

there are many pages of blog entries, so don't assume the only topics are those on the first page. there are also categories listed along the right if a particular topic interests you. i'd like to build traffic and convos on the site so that i can attract advertisers, so that THEY can pay for the site instead of me. lol

    edit:
as of 12/11/08 i'll be posting on part 2 of this thread: http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/360230/, and as of 2/6/09 i'll be posting on part 3 of this thread: http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/417639/.

    Intersting stuff...
To be honest, I often thought (or assumed) that Male Dancers were not heaped in to the same sterotype as that of Female Dancers.
That is until fairly recently when a few different people gay men and straight women said that they would consider having sex with an exotic dancer/stripper, but never a relationship... icon_eek.gif

    Which begs the question...
with that being said, who's the "ho" in that scenario?

There are multititude of reasons for that one gets in to any profession and usually they relate to either: passion, fame, ego, or a means to an end - and possibly in some cases, all of the above.

...judge not, less ye be judge

    Nice site Devon/DancerJack icon_wink.gif

I spent a few minutes skimming through it, and it looks great! I presume that the "sample ad space" graphics are placeholders for actual ads that you'll be hosting.

Anyway, if you ever come to Houston, I'll fawn over you and put lots of dollar bills into your g-string. icon_twisted.gif

After reading the blog I have to give credit to DancerJack, I would never have the patience or self-discipline to do that job. I can't stand taking more than 20 minutes to get ready for my work!

Latest blog entry: "Your little voice speaks the truth..."

This blog examines the importance of paying attention, especially when you suspect someone is off-balance. Stalkers are an ugly truth in this job... don't ignore your instinct!

You have my sympathies dealing with people like that. You need danger pay. And you are right if someone is up for 15 years to life it sounds more like manslaughter or 2nd degree murder than B&E (I work in the justice field).

A very touching and well-written blog. Actually all of your blogs are well-written! I agree with you about friends. To me true friends are people who can tell you politely that you are being a jerk or an asshole and you will not get offended, but will listen.

My question about exotic dancing is the career path it has. It is not like your typical career where you start at 22 at the bottom of the organization and retire at 65 with a gold watch. Are most exotic dancers/entertainers part-time or most full-time? Do most manage their own career, or are they managed by someone else?

there's a wide variety of situations: most dancers i know personally are part time and pretty erratic. those of us who do it like an actual career, however, network with each other, collaborate, and synergize. it's the only way to survive more than a couple months/years. many dancers manage themselves; however, there are groups (i.e. hunter's hunks, chippendales, etc.) with a booking manager. the entertainers simply show up and perform wherever they're booked. the show is paid for in advance by the venue and the performers are paid for showing up.

as for a career path: if you take good care of yourself you can perform for years. i've been doing it for 10. i have an acquaintance named magnum who is several years older than me and he's stunning - he likes to rock out with his cock out at the tender age of 38. but you definitely have to eat well and moisurize. if you don't stay the performance route, you can go into club management or start a group and be the booking director. there are lots of ways to stay involved, even if you're not in a thong.

Thanks Dancerjack, that makes sense about going into management.

Ten years is pretty amazing. You must at times get tired of the travel though (travelling on business for me loses its' romance after two days).

i actually get bored if i'm doing anything in the same place too much, and since it's primarily on weekends the travelling is pretty compartmentalized. i like road trips, so i tend to be pretty content; however, i will admit that some drives are more interesting than others. LOL

I think it would be a splendid idea if you did a stint in Canada between December and March. There are parts of Northern Alberta, Ontario and Quebec that are full of horny men that would love to see you dance. The added benefit would be the free lessons in winter driving that only Canada and certain Northern states can provide. icon_lol.gif

Of course you could always fly Bearskin Airlines. 19-passenger planes landing in blizzards and heavy turbulence. Fun and games. icon_eek.gif

Montreal is fabulous period. Exotic dancers, restaurants, bathhouses, bars, shopping, and of course good looking men. One of my favourite cities to visit.
