Does anyone use them? I always thought only old straight men do this, but I just found out one of my friends does... he goes from 5'5" to a "less distracting" 5'7". He only has like 4 pairs of shoes and sandals, so I suggested that he replace them with a handful of naturally-taller ones, lest he be caught by someone more judgmental. He thinks it's not a big deal if he gets caught, so maybe i'm overreacting?

I don't know because there is a thread about lying about your age and quite a lot of RJers believe that any kind of lie, no matter how small, is grounds for termination and an instant relationship deal breaker, so I can only imagine that they would also see this as a great evil. People lie about their age, and now, we have people lying about their height? What's next? Women wearing makeup to conceal their ugliness and enhance beauty? Guys wearing hair pieces to cover their bald heads? Hair dye to cover up the grey in our hair and facial hair? My god when will all the lies stop! Oh, the humanity!

I don't see it as any big deal.
If it makes him feel better about himself, great.

Gosh all the -isms: ageism, heightism, baldism, uglyism, small cockism.......No wonder those inflicted & unself-accepting go thru the trouble to rectify their disposition as they see fit as best they can. A popular augmentation for mongoloid descent is to change their one lid eyelids into double lid eyelids to have a more Western Caucasian look. Same with their noses, from flat nose to a pointier nose. The ideal of young, tall, beautiful, great head of hair & endowed Caucasian makes people do whatever it takes to look the part.....

Yup: with my boots I'm 5'9". Maybe it's in my head, but it seems like it makes all the difference.

I don't care about a guy's height. I'm used to most guys being a bit shorter than I am. In fact, whenever I am standing next to a guy who is any taller than I am, it throws me a bit! Seriously, I wouldn't care if a guy wanted to be a little taller and wore those things in his shoes. I can't fault a guy for wanting to look and feel his best.

OP, tell your friend to have the lifts made out of lead and he will be getting lots of leg exercise by wearing them.

Dude, that's totally ok and harmless. If he got "caught" it would not be a big deal at all and if it makes him feel better lay off it.

It could also be asked why does it bother you at all? It gas absolutely nothing to do with or no effect on you what so ever.
