    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I would be confused too !!!! I believe it would totally depend on the states legislation your living in with your partner, as to whether or not a previously accepted "domestic partnership" would automaticly become on the same level with marriage, if it became the new law. I would not take anything for granted !!!! contact your local courthouse where marriage licenses are given out to make sure where you stand on this issue. Better safe by asking, than sorry for having assumed.

Registered domestic partnerships are not the same as marriage in CA. They don't convert to marriage. If you want to be married, you need a marriage license issued by a county clerk.

Domestic partnerships do not automatically turn into marriage. Remember that domestic partnership also works for straight couples who live together but never marry, so if you have a domestic partnership in paper, that is what you have until you actually go through the process of obtaining a marriage license. You can get a marriage license even if you already are registered as domestic partners. The only way you CAN NOT get a marriage license in CA is if you are already married in another state or country, like if you already got married in Canada or Massachusetts. In that case CA does not issue you a marriage license but it will acknowledge your marriage from other states/countries. I hope this helps.icon_biggrin.gif
