Womanizer promotes abuse?

So I may be off my rocker here, and by all means, if I am, tell me so, but I'm slightly disturbed at how violently abusive the video for Womanizer is, and more disturbing is that it's passed off as ok because Britney is a strong, independent woman taking control. For those of you who haven't seen, here's the video:

If you don't want to watch the whole thing, skip to 3:05 in the video. During this part of the video, she 1) Shoves him down onto the bed. 2) Sits on top of him and grabs him by the tie. 3) Takes the tie, and rolls him across the bed. 4) Kicks him in the gut, and off of the bed. 5) Grabs him by the throat, and throws him back in the bed. 6) Covers him in a black sheet, effectively getting rid of him. Given what we've seen up to that point, I'm interpret that act as a reference to killing him, wrapping in a black sheet, and making everything "go black" for him. A pretty strong death imagery is associated with that act, if you ask me.

Now, here's my beef with it. It's a fairly blatant & graphic image of abuse. Furthermore, as I stated earlier, it's passed off as okay because it's a woman asserting her independence. Yet, if you were to reverse the roles, put a man in Britney's position, and make Britney the man, people would be screaming abuse before the video was even over.

Now, my questions to this are multiple. Is this a sign of inequality, that a woman can get away with abuse whereas a man can't? Does anyone else find the video disturbing? Women are capable of abusing their male spouses, does this video (as well as other songs such as Goodbye Earl by the Dixie Chicks) promote/enforce the idea that women abusing men is acceptable? Abuse in gay male relationships I feel is horribly underresearched. How do we as a culture, or as a group, rationalize & deal with abuse? The questions I have stemming from this are endless.

All videos by Britney are disturbing.

Nature has made most men stronger than most women (some lesbian bar bouncers I know excepted). Our culture says that a man's greater strength, however it was evolved, should never be used to overpower a woman. That is a cowardly and a non-acceptable use of a man's natural strength advantage.

So should a woman be able to abuse a man? Not in theory, though the video is a fantasy, and I'm not sure if some straight men won't be excited by the idea. I take is as a sexual fantasy, and nothing more.

I think violence can spice the clip and make it "stronger" and more effectively touching .. (look at my two clips in my profile of my favorite director) ..

And you know what's more disturbing ?? Britney's full naked .. not artistic naked , cheap naked ..

Abuse is a strong term. The abuse is in your interpretation of it. I know a number of men, who would be very excited by that scene, and frankly it's quite mild.

It's only abuse if it's not consensual, and there is nothing in that video to suggest either way.

The topic was in an RJ thread entitled:

Don't Take the Abuse! You are to special to go through a abusive relationship!

BTW, is there a way to link to another thread, from within a thread?

    1. Find thread
    2. Copy thread's URL from the address bar on your browser.
    3. Paste URL to textbox when posting, highlight it and click the URL button to wrap the [URL] [/URL] tags around it.
    5. Enjoy

By the way, if you want to find old threads and you remember the title or a phrase that someone used, I would recommend searching for that phrase in google and including the term site:realjock.com in your search. You may already know this but by doing that google will look for the phrase within the site specified after "site:". I think the realjock search prioritizes by date of thread instead of relevance. I usually can't find what I'm looking for with it.

What kind of music video could one have without metaphor? This violence you are talking about is done in such an unrealistic environment until it hardly counts.....it doesn't count.
First of all: sunny side up eggs are not square. Second you have to put your clothes on; they don't fly onto your body....third, there were no trolls in that steam room.

As if it's needed: The secretary, the hostess, and the limo driver were all the same girl, Britney in costume. She can't be three places at once or in one place at the same time like when the trio throw the guy on the bed.

She drove the car with her foot while making not nice with the gay guy in the back seat....COME ON!

Apart from that, no punches were thrown and no blood or bruises appeared on the main actors face. No clothes were torn, no damage to him occured at all. I think metaphorically, he was just being chastised by Britney. In real life, all a woman scorned can really do is verbally knock around a cheating bf.

Why not if you're going to make a video, let the chick get some real revenge. Ofcourse, she didn't even pop him one. I would have! She could learn a thing or two from the man bashing videos that have come before!
