I'm guilty of this, but today was the first time ild see 3 guys watching me from behind while I squat. I usually look at guys not making it obvious I am, but these guys made it obvious they were looking at me. I thought it was awkward ,I didn't know if to smile or walk away. How do you handle such 'in the face' kinda cruising?

I would have asked "Was I doing that right?"

It would catch them off guard and if you weren't doing it right, then they would let you know so that you could do it right.

or for real shock value.. I would have asked "Do you like the way I squat?" which is always fun to ask whether in the gym or not. icon_biggrin.gif

The only man behind me during squats is my trainer. Thinking about it people don't pay attention to me in the gym icon_sad.gif

I've had it happen to me - - - and it is no problem - they're just admiring your form. They prefer to stand out of your way behind you (our of your eyesight) instead of in front of you - so they won't distract you. And even in the off-chance that they're checking out our asses and thighs, great! Let them enjoy the results of all our hard work!

I've never had this happen or seen this happen to anyone else. What kind of creepy gym is this? It's one thing to take a quick look at what someone else is doing, but to stand behind them and stare is really strange.

A quick smile covers all bases . But if they were behind you, how did you know they were staring at you? Mirrors?

I hate leg days...because I have a rather round and large ass (definitely comes from the polynesian side of my heritage) and it's not even funny when I have people looking, I get all flustered. icon_redface.gif

Its also possible they were only waiting in line to use the machine.

I've caught guys starring many times, yet I don't really have pronounced butt curves, and often they would use the machine after me, so its possible that's the case as well here too.

Oh my deity.... folks watch folks lift all the time. Get over it.

I've watched folks out of boredom; to laugh at their form; to monitor their safety; to admire their form; to study their method; inspiration.

Some gays guys get so absurd.

I ALWAYS have guys check me out when I'm lifting. I'm sure most of them aren't gay.

You're putting way too much into this. It's THE GYM.

See Johnny lift the weight. It's something that happens at the gym, and it probably has nothing to do with your gluteus maximus.

ok i have never seen anyone do this before. however, if they are staring maybe you have bad form and they are watching because they are afraid you are going to hurt yourself

Yes, I watch men and women for their form and what they are doing whether it's right or wrong, it's not sexual

Or other times I like to watch the muscles move in their arms lol

Or, even learn English, and how to use the "Caps" key....LOL. (lazy, lazy, lazy; very telling).

When I see some guys squatting mega weight x, I'm watching to see if the guy's in trouble. Not all folks in the gym are clueless idiots. Sometimes, folks do a movement so poorly (1/4 reps, or leaning over, or on a ball, etc., that you just have to laugh internally because you know they are almost certainly uncoachable, and certainly don't observe guys that do it well. E.g., I have 19.5 inch arms at 5'5". I do reps with 10# weights, in perfect form. The stupid asses watch me, not believing that training with a knowledge of the body, and executing an informed plan WORKS.

Just because Mom said God is real, or that you have to lift heavy to get big, doesn't make it so. That's not good science. Neither is true.

In most gyms I've been in, the squat racks and power cages are set up next to mirrors so you can self-check your form.

Though if you are doing your squats and Deadlifts correctly, your line of sight should be focused on an object (or imaginary reference point) about a meter or so in front of you, such that you're not craning your neck back over the (squat) bar, but rather keeping your neck parallel to the angle of your whole spine.

As for "guys checking your form"... well, it'd be better if they had some cred as trainers or competitive powerlifters.
