    America's Best Doughnuts

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/us-news-travel/americas-best-doughnuts_b_3101621.html

This is an incorrect list. The best donuts are at the Donut Man in Glendora, California. Some people travel long distances to get them. I know people that live in other states and go here whenever they visit.

Donut Man is eventually going to close. Last I heard, his kids don't want to take over the business.

    Meanwhile in New Orleans.....

Yes, we have a state donut, but we call them Beignets. They're deep fried and smothered with powdered sugar. icon_razz.gif

So true. First time I ever had their products, I thought they were no comparison to real donuts made by sole proprietors who care about their business. K K donuts were like McDonald's milk shakes. NOT the same as the real thing from a place that knows & cares.

Couldn't he just sell it as a going concern?

I've been tortured by this place that opened up across the street from my office last month (downtown San Diego):

    www.facebook.com/donutbar

I've tried a few and they are pretty darn good. Some are worth the inflated "artisan" price while others are not. Hopefully this place can last but in the long run I think they will ride the same wave as the cupcake shops which is now seen as a passing fad. On the upside, they surprisingly have little competition other than Starbucks which aren't really known for their donuts anyway. Most donut shops here are located in neighborhoods outside of downtown.

Add the mint juleps and it always reminds me of Disneyland.

The strawberry one is offered seasonally. The Donut Man (used to be Foster's Donuts) and In-N-Out Burger.....grew up on those....not literally of course. ;)

It wouldn't be the same. I have a feeling if he sold his store, it's going to turn into one of those cheap donut / Chinese food / fried chicken joints that are so common around here. icon_neutral.gif

Exactly! That's a strawberry sandwich. Not a doughnut!
