MAJOR ENDORSEMENT: COLIN POWELL ENDORSES OBAMA

Powell endorsed Obama this morning (Sunday) on "Meet the Press".
He said either candidate would be a good president, but in these times, Obama is an "inspirational" figure who could make a difference.

He also talked about the campaigns. The ill advised selection of the Palin govenor (noting her "rightward shift") of the party, the Ayers controversy (which went too far). He stated that he has watched both candidates over the last couple of years, but has seen a more steady approach with Obama.
    Thoughts?

The writing's on the wall for McCain now
This is more of a symbolic endorsement for Barack
Colin Powell has been shown to be a liar and a shill for this criminal administration

I'm watching it now, Powell is taking the McCain campaign apart, and heavily criticizing the Repubs. Tons of headline stuff here.

I wonder how long it will take for McCain's campaign to start attacking Powell's credibility.

"Powell endorses Obama, so what? Everyone knows that America-hater eats babies".

I disagree. I did some research about his involvement in the run up to the Iraq War. I've concluded that Powell was duped and lied to when he went to the UN with "evidence" and a few months later, the facts were exposed to him and that is what prompted him to resign. He hates what they did to him and I think that as conservative as he still is, he is picking Obama to force the Republican Party to get back to its roots and become the conservatives that he sees himself as.

This is a remarkable, and regrettably rare, example of intellectual consistency.

There were MAJOR disagreements btw the State Dept and the White proper at the time
... but Powell played like a good soldier and did it anyway

Great news. I think more should be said about this endorsement and Warren Buffet's endorsement for Obama because Buffett speaks to the old Republican values - and of course Powell is a Republican too. GO OBAMA!

Colin Powell is my hero! He perfectly stated his case. It is a shame he did not run for president instead of Bush 8 years ago. I have always known he was a man of integrity, and I get the same feeling from Obama.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/19/colin-powell-endorses-oba_n_135895.html

    Poll a/o 10.19.08
    Obama: 52%
    McCain: 42%

    Noteworthy:
Chicago Tribune: In 141 yeas has never endorsed a Democrat for POTUS, until Obama.
Los Angeles Times: In 127 years, has never endorsed a Democrat for POTUS, until now.

Obama raised $150 million during September 2008. All total, Obama has raised $604M whereas McCain has raised $232M.

Obama did not accept/take the $84M in federal funds available to him/his campaign upon winning the nomination: however, McCain did.

BTW, did anyone wake up curious and tell him the good news?
CuriousJockAZ saidDon't hold your breath as for Powell endorsing Obama. As for the WASHINGTON POST endorsing Obama -- awesome -- McCain may still have a shot after all!! :-)

You can all stop holding your breath now!icon_lol.gif

1969er saidFrom what I've heard, Powell is possibly close to endorsing Obama. This is from Bill Kristol on FoxNews:

I would bet money this doesn't have an ice cube's chance in hell of ever happening. Powell has already denied it, even Kirstol has since back-pedaled.

So where is it that Powell was involved in this? I don't think he was.

    ActiveAndFit, I love ya! icon_lol.gif

Curious and John are so full of shit, they will find a way to attempt to argue out of this one too. Concession is not part of their conscience.

The part about talking to nation leaders, such as Iran, as being one of the biggest reasons why Powell is endorsing Obama is VERY TELLING!

McCain the "maverick" just got out-mavericked. Luv it! And what sealed the deal for Powell was McCain's judgment in picking Palin as the VP.

Powell is the true conservative that I can at least respect.

I would love to see Powell accept a cabinet appointment in the Obama administration. It would be a serious flying bitch-slap to Bush he took up Secretary of State again, but I would love to see him as Secretary of Defense or National Security Advisor. I'm sure it won't happen, but damn it's nice to day dream sometimes.icon_biggrin.gif

I actually like Secretary Gates as Sec of Defense. He is causing the military to think outside the box and to reduce and eliminate group think that causes more problems than solutions (i.e. Iraq).
