Not only are Americans great at generalizing hate, we're also good at directing it toward the wrong geographic area.

Not even going to mention that Czechoslovakia isn't even a country any more and hasn't been for a while.

I'd like to say that's unbelievable, but it's not.

Chechnya's over in New Jersey somewhere, isn't it? Or is it in Canada? I get them furn countries all mixed up. They're not Merican.

One guy was questioning a connection with the fertilizer explosion in West, Texas, because that town has a large Czech population. icon_rolleyes.gif

One has only to watch Jay Leno's "Jaywalking" segment to see how many seriously ignorant Americans there are. And read blogs like these, literally thousands every day, not merely isolated instances.

Yes. I agree. I wish I could believe these were isolated incidents but they aren't These may be exaggerated examples but I read somewhere that it was estimated that something like 50% of Americans can't identify China on a map.

Go to many other countries and they're familiar with our president and government system but I dare you to find many Americans who even know who Canada's Prime Minister is or even what a Prime Minister is.

    This a quite sad.

I'm even making the effort not to be that "ugly American" here in Argentina. I try to speak Spanish, but lead off with "Mi español no es muy bueno. Gracias usted por su paciencia conmigo." And, I joke about being "El gringo Yanqui". That usually elicits a laugh as the Porteños help me piece together my sentences.

    Los Porteños son muy amables!
