Again... developing... it will be useful to see if this pans out... and somewhat disconcerting.

Canadian police and intelligence agencies will announce later today they have thwarted a plot to carry out a major terrorist attack, arresting two suspects in Montreal and Toronto, CBC News has learned.

Highly placed sources tell CBC News the alleged plotters have been under surveillance for more than a year in Quebec and southern Ontario.

The two men are expected to appear in court tomorrow.

Police have made a number of arrests in southern Ontario and Quebec following a joint operation between Canadian and U.S. authorities. (CBC)
The investigation was part of a cross-border operation involving Canadian law enforcement agencies, the FBI and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The arrests Monday morning were co-ordinated and executed by a special joint task force of RCMP and CSIS anti-terrorism units, combined with provincial and municipal police forces in Ontario and Quebec.

Just watched the live press conference by the RCMP. It was supported by Al-Qaeda in Iran. Apparently they were trying to derail a train enroute to NY.

Are they the fun-loving, gay-friendly, pro-women's rights ones so many RJer's are telling about? Or the other ones?
They're the ones who like to use a name that kinda rhymes with "I'll Killya."

The other ones (and their numbers are legion), who are also busily trying to wipe out the first group you mentioned. icon_wink.gif

...and here's another Muslim group that the Islamic Westboros would love to wipe out (and came close to it).

Canada thwarts "al Qaeda-supported" passenger train plot

Canadian police said on Monday they had arrested and charged two men with plotting to derail a Toronto-area passenger train in an operation they say was backed by al Qaeda elements in Iran.

"Had this plot been carried out, it would have resulted in innocent people being killed or seriously injured," Royal Canadian Mounted Police official James Malizia told reporters in Toronto.

The RCMP said it had arrested Chiheb Esseghaier, 30, of Montreal, and Raed Jaser, 35, of Toronto in connection with the plot, which authorities said was not linked to the Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three and injured more than 200 people last week.

Neither is a Canadian citizen, but the police did not reveal their nationalities.

Call me skeptical, but why are the FBI and the Department of Homeland Stupidity involved in this? As far as I recall, the only "terror plots" that they've "thwarted" were ones that they concocted themselves in the first place. Then they lure some dumb kid to sign on to it on the internet and call a press conference. icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gif

All of those bogus busts start out like this...
