im an evangelist & i do believe all holy books are a work of human beings

whats inspiring is u should grab the better things from it , like loving , forgiving , sharing , being true , kind , etc etc .
its a fiction ultimately but when i read quran ,i feel proud of being a christian than a killer

    old testament = basic quran
new testament changes OT & makes it useless in short quran too

learn the good things always if u are an optimist

FACT: Our schools cannot get text books with accurate information on the last two hundred years even though those events are VERY WELL DOCUMENTED!!!

This. Unfortunately, he has nothing particularly intelligent to say about anything. I think he just makes them because attention gives him a hardon, even though he doesn't deserve it.

I'm pretty sure Jesus is not a God but I can't decide weather he is a mythologic figure like Superman, Zeus or a real activist like MLK, George Washington. Anyways, I admire his work. Did you before he came into the picture, the old testament says if you see your neighbors working on a Sundays to stone them to death. That actually makes sense cause my neighbor lawnmowering really bothers me every Sunday morning while trying to sleep.

You can get moral values out of any story, even if the story is made up you can still go "but hey, I like the fact that Cinderella wasn't a total bitch".

This ^ I try not to get worked up about the evidence of the bible anymore. There's some good things to learn from it (and some bad), and I think the idea of someone watching/judging you is all that keeps some people in line.

I personally don't believe in organized religion, nor do I believe the bible is the word of God or inspired by God. I think its just man trying to find understanding and a means of control.
But some of the new testament does make sense and motivate/inspire me.

It is a book of stories and lessons how people lived during that time. In 2000 years our history books might look and seem the same. If the lessons and stories of the bible help someone today and they want to follow it, live by it, go for it, as long as they don't rip someone else apart because they don't live by it either.

If the Resurrection of Jesus actually happened - which the last 2000 years of history strongly argues in favor of - then the scriptures are reliable because Jesus the resurrected one is told to have said so.

Extra-biblical evidence such as Josephus mention Jesus, so the issue is not whether Jesus existed at that time, as that is not primarily contested, but whether he was the Jewish Messiah or just another religious guru/nutcase. Josephus, of course, didn't think he was the Messiah.

The only real factor in determining truth historically is whether or not the compact majority believes it. It was true that the world was flat until a majority of people believed it was round. It was true that African-Americans enjoyed being slaves, because a majority of people believed it. And the New Testament will be true until a majority of people deny it.

Ibsen's play "An Enemy of the People" comes to mind.

    Also, this thread sucks.

The issue, in my opinion, is not whether or not the OT, or the entire Bible, is true or false. The Bible was written over a period of centuries. Parts of it are a reflection of ancient cultures, and I do not believe that God would approve some aspects of ancient cultures. Parts are the history of the Hebrew people, and history is rarely objective. Parts of it, in my opinion, do reflect the will of God. There can be valid differences of opinion in how to understand various parts of the Bible.

    True.

False belief systems are forever trying to defeat truth. That is what makes religions / cults / superstitions so dangerous.

I'm sorry.....but why is this horseshit subject of religion/god, not posted in the forum labeled "spirituality?"
It's specifically there to house all these delusions that some of you seem to enjoy wasting your time/life on.

Go to your houses of worship icon_rolleyes.gif or the spirituality forum here and question till you drop. (Oh wait....many of these houses of worship probably wouldn't want our kind there.) icon_surprised.gif
Why have it infiltrate the mainstream here, like it attempts (and succeeds) to do in our lives in the real world with its false, divisive, and subservient nonsense?!

This is something you need to walk out to the curb with, and scrape off the bottom of your shoe.
