Sad, but i find interesting the call for punishment for "those responsible".

Would this theoretical law apply to every false claim put on the internet ? or just this one?

The irony is that this post and the post by the OP lacks any sense of responsibility they think should have been exercised by redditors.

Not only is it unclear that this was in fact Sunil Triparthi, but it doesn't indicate the date when he died given that he had gone missing before the bombings.

Er, Riddler, the OP post is merely a repeat of the article's title.

Go back to the article and at the bottom you'll see a link to the article's source which is The Independent. There you will see that it is Triparthi's body they found.

The time and date of death hasn't been determined yet, so the article is jumping the gun, like the Redditors did.

And just as the OP did.

I dunno .... but I think he committed suicide before he was falsely accused

It's all very sad of course but the reason Reddit did the story was because he had been reported missing prior
The News agency should definitely be responsible for what they wrote but I don't think his suicide was because of the story

this article is completely misleading and sensational... he did not kill himself because of fucking reddit, he'd been missing for 30days prior to the incident and had been having suicidal tendencies and depression leading up to his disappearance.... he killed himself long before the bombing. i mean they had to identify him by his remains thats how little was left of him due to decay.

    media drama queens.

^^Agreed^^ He was missing for over a month and had not taken his keys, wallet. etc. with him. The posters they had around town said that he might be suicidal. Tragic end for a young man, but it is highly unlikely that he was still alive when all this went down. (The part of Providence where he went missing and near where his body was found is heavily populated, so it's really unlikely that he was alive and hiding for a month then killed himself.)

At the same time the members of the media who rushed to finger a series of brown skinned people as red meat for the media ought to be fired at least. Truly one of the most disgusting displays of media hype in recent times.
