I love small towns and have had some of my best conversations and met the most interesting people there.

Go to local bar,(probably the only one is in the hotel), find out why people live there and what makes them tick. Likely there will only be a couple people there.

Most small towns always seem to have a Chinese restaurant. Check it out.

Small towns are such an unusual little world, grasp the moment. Locals may be just as curious about the "city boy"too.

Was in Tyler almost 2 years ago, taking US69 up to Oklahoma, and yeah, not a lot there. I think I stopped long enough for gas and donuts.

Curious why training would be there? Midway between Shreveport and DFW near I-20; what's the attraction?

I often visit bars in out-of-the-way places for a little local color, as suggested above. Just make sure you come across as butch. Red-neck Texans can be some mean people, I lived there 4 years, as I believe you do.

Turn the town folk into crossdressers and homo lovers like in the movie "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar". Some of those Red-Neck boys were delicious looking hehe.

got time for a haircut? hit the barber shop for interesting political and social discourse.

enjoy the local shops. find what's left of the "downtown shopping district" and peruse stores that aren't found in every strip mall.

and worst case scenario, there's always pay-per-view porn in your hotel room (but i don't know if they'll have the dudes doin' it in a hotel in Tyler....)

kryptonic saidhey funk, how is your band goin??
    It's not.

we havent practiced since moving into the new space.

the drummer and bass player are wanting to play covers and the singer is wanting to do weird beatles acid induced music where we all wear uniforms on stage.

    :/

as for Tyler. It's run by the church of green acres on 110. They pulled rob zombie's halloween from the movie theater. Not so many out boys around, and craigslist is dead too. (not that I was looking) icon_sad.gif

training's in Tyler because that's where ETMC (east texas medical center) is based. they've got a couple hospitals out here and EMS service all over East Texas. It just so happened that when the company who had Pasadena's EMS contract was up for renewal; ETMC had the better bid and got the contract.

that pay is shit; but the overtime is AMAZING. plus I'm getting mileage for coming up here and going home. and seeing as they aren't paying for a hotel over the weekend; the two round trips averaging about 880 miles total are getting me 58.4 cents per mile; about $500. (with an estimated 150 going into my tank. icon_biggrin.gif )

Also getting a $2,000 sign on bonus and a stiphon on my salary for having extra certifications. Bringing my hourly rate for a 24hr shift to a whopping $7.99 an hour; but that's 911 for you. (also, I've got no experience)

So if I ever save your life, or you see me on the street and feel like cutting me off or doing some other dumbassed thing; Please don't. I don't get paid enough for all your tomfoolery. Especially you; old Lady who has evidently been around since before ambulances and just stops dead in highway traffic instead of pulling to the right.
