Goth Rock anyone?

This is probably a big stretch to be asking here but I am curious if anyone here likes Goth rock? From the 80s Post-punk scene like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Christian Death, Bauhaus, etc. to Deathrock to modern acts like Type O Negative, The 69 eyes, OperaNoire, and a few others.

I am a fan of this type of music and my personal favorites range from Siouxsie, Miranda Sex Garden, Eva O, Gitane Demone, The Cure, Clan of Xymox, and many others.

I know a lot would predominantly assume that all the music is depressing but that's not always the case. While a lot of the bands have a more dark and brooding theme, there are some who are positive and upbeat.

    So any other fans?

    I do to some extent.

'80s - I like The Cure, Siouxsie, Ministry, Sisters of Mercy, etc

Current - I listen to Birthday Massacre, Zeromancer, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Cynergy 67. Then, of course, there's the whole EBM side of things, which is where my interests truly lie. There has been a lot of EBM bands that have been crossing over into the rock side of things lately, like Imperative Reaction and Combichrist.

Yup, I like the dark wave music from the 80s. Never got into the full goth music. They were kinda boring. Also liked the pre-psychobilly bands like The Cramps and The Misfits.

Dead Can Dance is one of my all-time favorite bands. I also like This Mortal Coil and Type O Negative.

Have you ever seen Gypsy 83? It's a Goth Rock/ Gay-themed movie. I enjoyed it because it wasn't your typical gay movie but a story of two people's lives where one happened to be gay.

I've heard some stuff from This Mortal Coil, pretty good. icon_smile.gif

And I have not seen Gypsy 83 but it sounds interesting so I'll give it a watch some day.

Sweet, I've heard of all those bands except for Cynergy 67 but they all are good, I'm especially hooked on The Birthday Massacre.

I'm not heavily into industrial ebm (more into industrial metal) but I do like Imperative Reaction and I like a few songs from Combichrist. Thanks for sharing your input!

I like Darkwave a lot as well. Frozen Autumn is one of my favorites. And pre-psycobilly/horrorpunk are great too. Got into the Misfits and like a few from the Cramps, I need to listen to them more.

My favorites are Siouxsie, Joy Division, Killing Joke, several one-hit-wonders of the 80s...

BTW, I look naturally goth. My skin is snow white, my hair and eyes are dark and my date - who happens to be a fan of anime - thinks I look like an anime villain. How can I not love him? icon_biggrin.gif

You look good in black! Have you ever heard of Agathodamon?

The early early era only. Before they were popular (their sound significantly changed from doom n gloom to very poppy!).

The most iconic goth album of theirs is pornography...

It's all good. I don't really listen to a lot of doom metal unless Type O Negative counts. I may give it a more thorough listen though. icon_smile.gif

The cure is good. If you like them, I'd recommend Bauhaus and Joy Division. You might like them. icon_smile.gif

Haha I know popularly, those bands were one hit wonders but I personally think a lot of the died out Goth bands were more then that. You could find some good tracks on their albums, especially for Siouxsie in my case. icon_smile.gif

And that's pretty sweet. You'd definitely be one of the rare athletic Goths and nothing more sexy than that. icon_smile.gif (Well in my opinion anyway heh)

Her voice is amazing. Back in the 80's she was called the Siouxsie of Germany. They deserved a lot more attention than what they received.

For Siouxsie fans, Aleksa of Exitmusic is being called the Siouxsie of today.
