I went and got the Gardasil HPV vaccine yesterday (first of 3 injections). A couple of friends of mine have been getting venereal wart outbreaks in recent years, so I've seen how that can greatly diminish someone's quality of life and make dating very hard.

Since I'm over 26, I had to pay for it myself, but I'm going to try to submit it to my insurance anyway. Either way, I think it is worth it.

At least it's one less thing to worry about. Safe sex doesn't protect against genital warts, by the way.

I'm very sorry. That must be horrible for your friends. My doctor gave my the shot at my checkup in October (I'm 21, virgin, but thought hey why not) Never went back to get the other two injections though. It's good your being safe!!

That's good for you! Actually I never really heard of it. I'm not sexually active at all, and like the guy above me I too am a virgin, So it never crossed my mind, But I think I should start looking into getting it.

Keep us posted on how things are going with the vaccine.

Nothing much to tell. It's an injection in the shoulder. It felt like a mildly sore muscle yesterday and today I don't feel anything. One should get a second injection at 2 months and the third and last one at 6 months.

Paul I think you can still go for the follow-up even if it has been more than 2 months.

Not 100% sure about the financial side but it may be either covered by insurance or free in some states as long as you are under 26. That's in th US. Over 26 you can still get it but may have to pay, but again that may depend on insurance. I had to pay $210 for it.

Boys do not have a cervix, of course, which is why drug companies have had to convince government health authorities that boys are carriers of HPV. But keep in mind that HPV has never even been proven to be a cause of cervical cancer, which means vaccinating anyone against HPV is completely pointless in the first place (http://www.naturalnews.com).

Neither Gardasil nor Cervarix has ever been proven to prevent HPV, either. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) actually admitted in reports back in 2003 that HPV is not scientifically linked to causing cervical cancer. In fact, the Gardasil vaccine was found to be responsible for actually causing a nearly 50 percent increase in precancerous lesions in women (http://www.naturalnews.com/022404.html).

it's tough to comprehend even a sliver of your idiocy. hpv has nothing to do with a cervix the way hiv has nothing to do with your ass. it's a virus that lives in your body. in women, particular strains of hpv have been shown to cause virtually all cervical cancer. where you got this notion of no study has been able to show this is the most ludicrous thing ever as hpv has been shown to be the most common cause of cervical cancers. being an idiot, you probably also didn't realize the cervix isn't the only part of the female anatomy. hpv can also cause cancer of the uterus, vulva, and a series and vaginal cancers.

and in men, hpv does cause cancer, because, as i said, it has nothing to do with a cervix. it can also cause anal, penile, and throat cancers in men. how you linked hpv to having a cervix is beyond the level of stupidity a mere mortal can attain. congratulations on being a metanlly-challenged mutant.

having to convince boys they are carrying it? at a certain point i'm surprised you haven't forgotten how to breathe because you're such a moron. hpv is a measurable virus. do you honestly think women are passing it onto other women at the rate the virus exists in them? while men should be vaccinated because they are affected by it too, they also bear the burden of being of transmitters.

the website you cite is absolute baloney, and their "claims" are utter crap. you have no idea what actual scientific research looks like, the concept of peer review, and or even appear capable of a hint of critical thinking. people like you are absolute wastes of space whose ignorance not only befalls them, but also strives to befall others. you and your "natural" news are a joke to humanity.

Unjaded, why is it pointless? Isn't it enough that it reduces genital wart outbreaks dramatically? In Australia cases of genital warts among the younger vaccinated population has fallen more than 80%. You obviously haven't seen how someone's quality of life can be destroyed by this. Having chronic outbreaks can make someone well-nigh undatable. Condoms don't protect against HPV, and in fact a majority of sexually active men are infected without even knowing it, though not everyone get visible otbreaks.

HPV is of course the causative agent in most cases of cervical cancer. That's an accepted medical fact. It's the main reason the FDA and health authorities in several other countries approved blanket vaccination, as a cancer preventive measure..

Of course, cervical cancer is not a problem for gay men, but if avoiding venerial wart outbreaks is not good enough reason for you (it is for me), then there is the fact that HPV infection in men can cause cancer of the throat, rectum and anus, and penis. Gay men are more likely to be infected with HPV and suffer from these cancers.

Does that vaccine protect you from all strands of HPV, and can you still get it with the vaccine?

hpv has many strains, but the vaccine protects you against strains 6 and 11, which are the culprits behind most warts and serious health problems associated. it doesn't prevent hpv, but it significantly protects from the most virulent strains. basically, you get hpv not to prevent all hpv but to prevent cancer caused by some types of hpv.

fine, here's your one chance to prove you're not the dumbest person on rj. show me one piece of scientific literature that relates hpv to having a cervix in that you must have a cervix to contract it.
