I've often wondered, what if Al Gore had won New Hampshire with its 4 electoral votes, making him have 271 and Bush 267. What if the hanging chad problem in Florida hadn't happened and Florida tilted to Gore.... or if he had won his home state of Tennessee?

What if it is found in the future that Gore should have been president as a result of Florida?

I guess it doesn't matter now, what is.. is.. We can hope a democrat will finally step in to straighten things out. I've often wondered, "what if Gore had been president"?? 9/11 would have happened, but we certainly wouldn't be in Iraq. Think about the positive things that may have been achieved had Gore been elected (and to be fair the few negatives).

    Thank God its almost over!

or perhaps an easier "suppose" would be "what if Nader hadn't run..." There would have been no question that Gore would have won Florida. So the past 8 years with 2 wars, trillions in debt, and an economic collapse are due to that old fool.

And now I retire to mourn the apparent demise of the subjunctive tense ... sack cloth and ashes ... icon_rolleyes.gif ...

    Sure, I've wondered. . .

    1) No war in Iraq

    2) A possibility that 9/11 never would've happened. . . Bush and his minions repeatedly ignored warnings that a terrorist attack was imminent. . .

    3) Had 9/11 happened, a serious and likely successful committment to capturing Osama bin Laden. . .

    4) A coherent explanation to the American people re: the connection between our energy dependence and the sustenance of terrorists. . .

    5) Serious committment and real progress toward energy independence. . .

    6) A competent response to Hurricane Katrina. . .

    7) Not having to hear Barbara Bush suggest that the people rendered homeless by Katrina are actually doing OK and probably better off than before. . .

icon_cool.gif More respect from the rest of the world

    9) I don't think we would be over $10 trillion in debt. . .

    10) I kind of doubt the banking / investment crisis would've happened. . .

    There's more, of course. . . but to cover everything???. . . that's a book, not a post

I think it would be safe to say the War in Iraq would not have happened, and the Federal Debt would be far less than $10 trillion.

I wonder if there would be less or more forums about US politics here on RealJock if the 2000 US election had turned out differently...

It's actually amazing how many people have considered this--just Google "if al gore had won".

Personally, I think 9/11 would have happened at the same time, or else something else more devastating may have happened at a later point. NOT going into Iraq would make the "alternative time line" much more different, though.

OBAMA Would not be the Phenomenon most people consider him. we live in a bipartisan system, and eventually power turns. 8 years of clinton, 8 years f Gore you can rest assured that Obama might not even be running, let alone in the position that he is.

Its my opinion that Gore did win, that Bush Usurped the presidency through manipulative tactical lawyering to work the system and used crooked politics wherever practical. His party staged a revolt in Florida to camplain about the recount to pressure the court to stop it for "SAFETIES SAKE", Not to mention his brothers help and his brothers secretary of state who also manipulated the system in Bush's favor. It was and will be probably the most outstanding con job of this century. Ours would be a totally different world right now, to a very positive degree as explained by all the above posters. Now we have to spend possibly two decades or more to repair what bush and his Neocon/New American Century Ideologs have f---ed up.. and no I do not believe that everything works our for a reason !!! Shiesters often win out to the detriment of millions, I don't see reason in it !!!!

Gore lost, by 500 or so votes, get over it. But; had Al Gore won, Osama bin Laden would be president by now, for life.

John43620 saidBut; had Al Gore won, Osama bin Laden would be president by now, for life.

And just when I thought that Rep. Michelle Bachmann with her left-field comments about Obama's "anti-Americanism" was the Republican Dummy du Jour... Obviously, I was mistaken.

But to answer the question, I am in agreement with LittleDudeWithMuscles on a couple of points: an agressive reorganization of the US's energy consumption would have resulted, and there would have been a much more competent response to Hurricane Katrina. . . and also to 9/11.

Instead of hunting Osama Bin Laden we'd be hunting Manbearpig.

The US would demand world wide credit for founding the internet and ask for royalties.

And of course Manbearpig would be the primary target of our global military operations.
