How do I know I'm gaining muscle weight or some other weight?

I was 162ish when I started working out 9months ago. I dropped to 150 about two months ago but I rebounded to 155ish currently... I have been keeping the same routine but eating more... I did also start a full time job that requies me to sit 8 hours a day.

    Help?

If you aren't lifting more weight consistently (ie not increasing the resistance over time) and you aren't doing more reps, then you are gaining fat. Plus when your body gets used to a routine, it burns fewer calories to do the same routine, so you fill out with muscle and fat to adapt to that current stressor. It will stabilize if you eat the same thing everyday and do the same routine weekly.

That said, anytime you gain weight, some will be fat. Anytime you lose weight, some muscle loss occurs. You keep the neuro-muscular coordiation, however. Naturally of course all this only applies if you are drug free. If you're taking testosterone, which is illegal without a doctor prescribing it, then you will gain muscle even by not going to the gym. Interestingly you won't gain as much strength with drugs because that's a nervous system thing.
