The other day I read an article about the discovery of the three new earth-like planets. (http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/18/us/planet-discovery) Of course I had to share this information with everyone I knew, after all it's pretty cool. So...some friend and I were hanging out and drinking (end of semester celebratory stuff) and I bring it up in a "nerd moment." A "nerd moment" is when I get excited about something scientific that everyone else will not ever care about. My friend like me enough to pretend lol. So I go on this long spiel about how they found them and blah. At this point my friend asks me how are away that is. I tell her 6.5 trillion miles. She then says "that's cool we should go sometime, it will be a record breaking maned space mission." I immediate go into a rant about how difficult it would be to send a group of people there and get them there before they die. I also explain time dilation in there somewhere. I think she got it, but we were drunk so she might have just been saying yes because I was talking so fast. She then told me that it didn't make sense why we would look or place we couldn't get to. So, I just wanted to ask if it was worth it to be making these kinds of discoveries. I think it is even those we cannot yet go to these places.
