Reverse racism

I am so tired of being accused of being racist just because I ask a black or Hispanic person a question related to my job. I asked a black guy if he lived where he was hanging out at and he went completely off his rocker yelling that I only asked him that because he was black and saying 'us black people have a problem with pale faces asking us stuff like that'.

Are you kidding me!? It is my job to ask questions like that to anyone I contact. I don't care what race you are. Had I been black would he have pulled the race card? I doubt it. I know not all black and Hispanic people do this but geese. It was a simple question, get over yourself and the color of your skin for a minute.

I do find it incredibly wonderful in live in a country where the black population is less than 1/2 of 1 percent. It has become increasingly difficult to deal with such crap in Amerika (The black version of America.)

If you find yourself often accused of racism, perhaps you should change your behavior.

So you are saying I should stop doing my job? I'm sorry but unless you work in law enforcement you would have no clue about how we get accused of being racist.

Because a majority of you are racists, I've seen it with my own eyes.

There maybe some that are however I am not one of them nor are the guys I work with. Asking the simple question of 'do you live here' then being called a racist is ridiculous.

You don't have to get the clap to know what it is.

I know that people who are not racist do not always find themselves accused of racism. Some self-examination is in order but you'd rather whine and be defensive. Suit yourself.

The question is do you ask other people if they live where they're hanging out, or just Blacks and Hispanics?

If you saw an elderly white lady hanging around on a street corner would you ask her if she lived in the neighbourhood?

Sometimes people behave like racists without realising.

Why not question your actions next time and see if you are jumping to assumptions. Just because someone is Black or Hispanic and looks like they're 'hanging around', do you jump to conclusion they're up to no good?

And if you are only doing your job, maybe you need to develop a thicker skin.

Most of us get hassled at work, it's how we react that matters.

Hmmm. Everyone has a certain amount of innate racism, but in the more common sense of the word I'm pretty far from a racist. I've been called a racist occasionally, even on RJ. It's always by people who don't know me when it's a convenient go to insult. So it does happen.

Maybe the OP works for a law enforcement agency with a broader racism problem, or even just a pr problem, that he gets tagged with. Or maybe certain scumbags have figured out that cries of racism occasionally get them out of trouble. Or maybe he is a racist, certainly he has a bit of a blame problem.

Anyway, I agree with the self-examination point. Saying "what's wring with blacks and Latinos" doesn't get him there and is a signifier in and of itself.

There's no such thing as "reverse" racism. Racism is racism. Who came up with that stupid term?

Have you ever noticed that race is only questioned when you're not white? White people don't get asked "Do you live around here?" Last I checked there's no law in this free country saying that people of color should be required to be in a certain area during a certain time of day. Nor do we need yours or anyone's permission to go where we please.

If you keep hearing the same thing over and over again, at some point you need to ask.. "Maybe it's me?"

There's no such thing as reverse racism. All -isms suck, yet are inevitable in a multicultural society. I'd say to reserve judgement or generalization whenever encountering an -ism situation that you may not understand. It's a waste of mental energy.

I'm not racist, I treat all the inferior people as if they were insane, no matter what color, sex, tribe or kitchen they come from.
