Anyone checking this new DEL TORO film out this weekend? Getting ALOT of good word. Huge summer-time monster movie?? Yes please!

    Seeing it this afternoon. Stoked.

    PLOT:

When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace. Heavily inspired by & Del Toro's "love letter" to the Asian Kaiju monsters against robots sub-genre from yesteryear.

    "GO BIG or GO EXTINCT!"

Looks cool, but then I get to thinking:

    - how much would it cost to engineer a mobile armoured battle suit/giant robot the size of 2-3 aircraft carriers?

    - Is it nuclear powered, because that big mofo gonna leave some serious carbon footprints.

    - Could a 100m tall bipedal robot/mecha actually stand on its own two feet without either collapsing under its own mass or sinking head-deep into the ocean floor? (Let's assume that we are working with metals and compounds that can be produced and not some sort of magical Unobtainium that has tensile strength 15000x its molecular mass, or some anti-grav bracing type shit)

    - Where the hell is Godzilla? Scratch that, just watched the trailer. Fishzillas all up in there.

I vehemently disagree. When I rim I never get accused of not being masculine. Maybe overly sloppy but always masculine.

That's all I can think of with the title and a hot Pacific Islander...

Saw the previews last night. I must be too gay. It
seems like a mind numbing video game but so does WWZ.

Yea I have zero interest in WWZ as well.

This is the ONLY "summer" movie I'm looking forward to aside from the gonna-be-scarier-than-hell THE CONJURING.

Don't really have any interest in the other summer films (ie: super-hero films, etc)

I just want to think of it as "Hellboy 3: Rise of the Giant Robot Army."

(In all seriousness: it looks pretty epic.)

    Just got back from it.

It was... exactly what I expected it to be. Solid film, but predictable.

What impressed me the most was that it felt like I was watching anime, just with live actors.

For those that see it this weekend, keep us updated on what you think of it.

Saw it, it's AMAZING. Def THE "summer movie" to go check out!

It literally is a visual feast of the senses! My god, the use of colors....

You can't think about those things going into it. Otherwise, you will ruin an entire sub-genre of fiction for yourself.

I just saw it and for the first half hour my jaw was on the floor while I wore the biggest smile possible. This movie was (pardon my censored language) F***ING AWESOME!
I loved it! And I would pay Guillermo del Toro to make a bajillion of these!

It looks beautiful, the fights are really cool and even the music was epic!
