New Top Design Question

    Love the show, but I have a question, as a neophyte as far a design.

    "Eddie" works for "Martha Stewart." He seems to really be insecure about pretty, young, and talented Preston, and funny, eclectic, and talented Nathan.

    He is obviously talented as well, but he comes off as a "Bitter Old Queen" in training, in his attempt to disparage all of the other competitors and regular people he comes in contact with during the show. He is also very impressed with his association Martha Stewart, and tries to channel his "superiority."

    So here is the question. Do you think his attitude made him a good fit @ MS or did he get this attitude from working at MS?

    I'm hoping that pretty and shy Preston pulls it off and at least as long. Nathan looks likethe one to beat. Any thoughts?

    That's a great question.

    I know some great people who work at MSL. I can't say though whether Mr. Ross is representative of the company - at the same time, he isn't representing Martha Stewart very well.

    Eddie Ross is the perfect example of one of the great dangers of being a contestant on a reality show: you can come off looking like an ass. (Whether you are one or not.)

    Between his hissy-fit over the broken vase a few weeks ago and his self-congratulatory interview segments, he's coming off as kind of crazy, very bitchy and, as you say, Aquanerd, insecure. Why, oh, why the need to proclaim his title everywhere he goes?

    That said, reality shows do a good job of selecting the most dramatic and off-kilter 5 minutes out of 48 hours of taping ... so you're never really sure what you're getting.

    Meanwhile, that Preston is as cute as can be, and calm, and doesn't bother to say anything negative about the others (which is what really makes the portrait they're painting of Eddie unattractive.)

    Will be very interested to see who makes it through next week - Nathan is a shoe in, among the other 3 who knows? They've been up and they've been down.

    BUT wasn't that weird when Andrea turned to Ondine and asked "what should I do?" ! And I had to agree with the judges - ER's room was a mess, and it was a major problem for me that he "shopped" it in just one showroom, especially his own company's.

    AND I'm now curious whether MSL might have an arrangement with Top Design - anyone know whether she's been talking about it on her show?

    Well, you could say that Preston is... someone cold. I mean, he has a short range of emotion on the show. He's very analytical about everything (or anal if you wanna go that far... haha.) Eddie does seem to come off as a prissy queen. I think he secretly has a crush on Preston, and is trying to supress his feelings by degrading Preston at every turn. I mean if he cares about Preston's stuff that much, he's got to have some strong feelings about him. Maybe he's jealous of Preston? But Eddie isn't a bad looking guy, quite the contrary in fact (though sometimes his pompous attitude is supremely ugly...) I would probably be loving Nathan as a friend. He seems like a wonderful guy, and has a naughty sense of humor, which I always love. However, for all we know, it's all in the editing and Preston's the "b1tch" and Eddie is a wonderful guy (doubt it)....

    Preston is a very attractive guy, no doubt and his style is very much in my taste. The refined, masculine blue/black/green color palette, strong cool colors (though I do like me a strong pop of red every once in a while).

    Anyway, I agree that from what i see in the show, Eddie needs to mature emotionally. I think he may not be confident/insecure in himself either. Which is why he's got to degrade others' stuff. He needs to turn his "editing eye" inward (though we all do.)

    So yeah, thats my take.

    My thoughts:

    Preston = IN

    Eddie = OUT

    'nough said.

    I've watched the show

    I'm addicted to all these Bravo reality shows icon_confused.gif

    Eddie is talented and you can tell he works at MS ... He constantly looks like he's about to be hit by a train
    It's like...... Oh! I cannot deal with this anymore... now done! Tah Dah!

    Too bad Eddie wasn't on the show last year when they all were ugly
    He had the bad luck on getting on the show when there was another gorgeous guy on

    Remember >>>>>

    Though that's a different show, of course - and David Bromstad was in a competition to have a TV show, which adds an element not part of the Top Design scheme.

    Eddie dismisses most of the others to often - it's always a mistake to underestimate your opposition, especially on reality TV!

    But what the shows tell you is who is good at working fast, thinking fast, getting a quick result. There's very little in design (interior, fashion, graphic) or business that works that way. great results take time. Still, this is the format possible. Which is why I always laugh when a contestant on one of the shows wails, "I just don't work this way!" or ""I would never design for a woman that size!" Have they not seen the shows before they audition?!!

    But, yeah,
    GQ - he's a babe.

    I'm sure he and Preston will have lovely children ...

    Eddie..ugh.."gorge", "delush"? I'm sorry but that is the kind of guy that makes gays look bad. He represents every single negative stereotype there is about gays. Feminine, queeny, bitchy, bitter, arrogant, bitchy, "I am better than you are" complex, hypocritical..and the list goes on and on. I'm sure that he and Martha get along just great.

    As for Preston, he is a cutie..so is Nathan.
