What would you do without RJ?

As most of you know, RJ disappeared for a day or so, possibly due to a malware attack. I'm sure some of you panicked and ran screaming into the street -- and then quickly realized you can't stand the daylight after being glued to a computer screen for six years. icon_eek.gif

What would you do if RJ shut down for good, without warning?

EDIT: What will you do differently, now that you know RJ could shut down for good, without warning?

I would do what I did before I discovered RJ: live my life.

Oh yeah I do that anyway. icon_lol.gif

Not gonna lie I was really kinda sad that this site was gone lol. Glad it wasn't a severe attack. This site really has the right group of people in it haha. But are there similar sites out there like this? And more importantly the message displayed last night was "unexpected" maintenance so I was wondering what happened lol. But nonetheless glad everything is back haha.

Now as for me, I would be able to live without it I mean people have to live their lives haha it would be disappointing at first, but you learn to move on and get over it.

Personally, I've only been active here for a month, so the stakes aren't very high for me. I haven't really given up anything in exchange for the minutes I spend here, except perhaps watching TV. So I would go right back to playing tennis, swimming, biking, walking, and working out without missing a beat.

However, I've made a few friends here that I would miss. I will definitely be exchanging contact information with a few folks that I would like to keep in touch with on the outside -- something I didn't think of doing before.

Haha. I don't want to offend anyone here, but I was suprised to see all the immediate "RJ is back!" type posting.

For me, RJ is just a website I use when I have some free time. I go to college, go to work, go hangout with friends. If RJ shut down, I'd spend more time doing things I enjoyed.

Seeing how I spent most of yesterday on Grindr and Scruff, I would probably end up actually getting laid in the real world for once.

Many of the similar sites that used to exist have gone away in the last few years. Connexion, DList, etc. Something to think about.

So there is no one that you have been chatting with in some random part of the planet who you had not gotten to the point of exchanging #s or emails with when it went down. It is a social media site and online friendships have been forged and maintained for years for some guys,, so that form of communication just disappearing can have an emotional toll. Doesn't have to be a big one, but I missed a couple people.

That's another way of looking at it. . .
Well, I do admit that I would also miss a few people (those few that I haven't exchanged numbers/emails/FB info with).

I do see how it would be disheartening to lose contact with those people abruptly.

Why do people always act like it's some kind of virtue not to give a shit?

That's not what I was saying, please don't take that the wrong way.

I was just saying that RJ is nice to have, but i have plenty of other things to do too. I'd miss the friendships I've made here, but if RJ shutdown, I wouldn't be "lost" without it.

Haha, I'd probably be better off without it. Im starting to spend more time in here then I should.

No biggie for me! I already have the contact information from several friends I've made on this site so I'll be able to get a hold of them outside of RJ. Plus, I'm a member of a travel forum and I spend more time there than I do on RJ.

I found that I really didn't care that much that the site was down. It was an eye opener. I've exchanged contact info with some people so that I won't lose touch. I should probably do that for a few more. You can make a connection with some really great guys here, if you're open to it.

I lost my biggest incentive for being here a while back. RJ no longer holds the appeal it once did.

Id probably be upset that I lost some contacts but I'd have more time to do whatever else I felt like doing. Probably study more.

I'd probably actually get some of my other shit done too. Responding to emails, phone shit, etc.

Which sites did you like? Any with the range of interests that RJ features?

And I thought it was something going on with my computer or Firefox. To answer the question, thought, I would be a bit upset as the site has been a great help to me. In the almost 6 years (my anniversary is 6/10) I've been a member, I've created friendships in the chat and I have created friendships in the forums. And I probably would never have met them if not for Real Jock. So it kind serves as a sort of social wake up call in that either I talk to my pals about being together on facebook, move to next levels with texting and calling and emailing. Otherwise, those connections are lost. Something to think about.

As to the workout aspect, I am sure I would find another site. It won't be anything like Real Jock, but at least I would get some great workout advice.

I totally cried trying to get on the site. I was wondering all day who the hell has viewed me! Jk

I watched hockey instead. Oh and played candy crush. Oh and applied for some jobs. It was actually really productive. Maybe I should stop showing up all together.

Honestly the biggest thing we need to do is exchange info with some of the guys we connect with this way if it does go down indefinitely, it won't be such a big deal. And that's really the biggest regret that I had, when it went down for the time it did, not exchanging contact information. Now I will make sure to do that haha.

I might start my own gay social site. I have before, though limited to disabled gays. I had several thousand members.

Problem is I'm too lazy, and don't need whatever money such a site might bring. I'm content to just rely upon someone else's efforts.

But still, if there were no other options, I might consider getting into the game again.
