Is this out of hand, funny, creative or racist? Each one has had their 15 min of fame, very creative with this auto tune thing, each one of these were made from a real news story, usually tragic, black people being themselves?

Meh. I suspect us Af-Ams have bigger things to worry about than how our more outlandish utterances get Auto-tuned/re-mixed/songified/whatever. That's already like 90% of our radio playlist offerings anyway.

Often it's more of an encasing of our press media's obsession with live, unadulterated content from participants in tragedies and other news stories, coupled with many individuals' interest in momentary self-ploitation, resulting in ready-made products for our multi-talented social media users.

I think it was a white company that did the original Hide your wife hide your kids autotune. Racist? I don't think so. I wish a more educated black person would go viral. Well I guess that's what Obama is for lol.

It may be racist (say again maybe) but hopefully these guy use their 15 minutes of fame and laugh all the way to the bank. Just my 2 cents.

The autotuned reporter chic that had the stroke at the Grammy's, or wherever that was, was definitely not black. You get autotuned if it can be turned into a tune. Sweet Brown was trying for it, in my opinion. She's gotta be a performance artist, if not onstage then in real life. None of the many black women in my environment sound like Aunt Jemima or Missy from Scartlett Ohara.

I'm probably the only one that thinks these autotuned videos are stupid. It all started with that Slap Chop one I believe.

Racist? Borderline call.....however, I have to give praise to Charles Ramsey. He has a refreshing personality as opposed to so many others that "uhhhh" and "mmmmm" their way through an interview.

I don't really see anything wrong with it. They do white people too.

Although after reading the above article they have some very good points. I'm not laughing at him. I'm laughing with him. He was right though. A little white girl ain't having shit to do with a black man unless she's hoeing or about to die.

If you have to ask then it may just hold some small shred of truth. No its not out of hand. Yes its funny. No its not very creative. And yes it has a small percentage of underline racism. or ghetto black exploitation. However, laughter makes the heart grow fonder and helps extend ones life span. I am certainly one for a good harmless laugh. But I also realize some forms of entertainment can promote a certain view of a people. I just hope the average viewer doesn't stereotype all people of color as all being as verbally articulate and animated as those video stars. icon_wink.gif

Bed intruder is great ... but I kind of feel like the others were "fishing" for these type of virals to occur since its more common now.

I do think it has a tinge of racism to it, and it makes me a bit uncomfortable. I hate to think people are laughing at Charles Ramsey for saying "bro" and "ribs" and stuff. I can't think of any white people being mocked off the top of my head at the moment.

But, maybe it is just people talking real and acting uneducated...let's face it, Ramsey seems high or drunk when he speaks. I was waiting for the press to dig into his sordid past, and bam, wouldn't you know it. Domestic assault and arrests.

If he were white and spoke the same way, it would probably be auto-tuned as well. It's like the gay stereotype, they look for the most flamboyant.

I don't know. It is hard for blacks and whites to separate race from things, even if they say they can. We still have a way to go.

LOL the first one is actually really well produced. Get a proper pop lyric on that track and I'd have it on my playlist icon_lol.gif

The lady in the Obama Phone video basically talks like a rapper. There's a musicality to her speaking voice but it's not just a 'black people thing'. I'm sure there are plenty of non animated/monotone black people out there.

My fave is still the Gaddafi auto-tune track which went viral awhile back and he sure as hell wasn't black icon_lol.gif

It don't think it's so much racist as an attempt to replicate the success of the original Bed Intruder song. It's formula: find a ghetto black person giving an interview, autotune it, and try to make money. Most of them suck. The only one that's been any good was "Ain't Nobody Got Time for That", but even that is not as good as the original Bed Intruder which was better than most of the crap on the radio that year #truestory:
