Wish us luck! Gov. Dayton has already confirmed that if the bill reaches his desk he will sign it, making it legal for gay couples to get married starting August 1st!

Crossing my fingers for you man! Sounds like it's pretty likely to happen.

Not only would it be great for the folks of Minnesota, but I'm hoping that it would light a fire under the asses of people here in Wisconsin.

    30 minutes till voting time!

    Livestream on StarTrib:

    http://www.startribune.com/politics/206728511.html

StarTribThe Minnesota House will hold a final floor vote Thursday afternoon on a measure to legalize same-sex marriage, after weeks of behind-the-scenes lobbying at the Capitol. The Star Tribune will be livestreaming the debate and vote.

“I feel confident that we have the votes,” House Speaker Paul Thissen, DFL-Minneapolis, said Tuesday. “I personally want this to pass, but I also think it’s the right direction for Minnesota and where the future is headed.”

Advocates on both sides continue pressing legislators on what has become one of the most divisive issues of the session. Residents in districts where legislators remain undecided on the marriage issue are still being bombarded with automated phone calls from both sides urging them to contact their lawmaker.

Also: whoops! Did I jump too soon? I forgot about the Senate on Monday. We gotta hear the same tired arguments all over again? Oh well! An enjoyable weekend either way!

StarTribThe Minnesota House has passed a measure to legalize same-sex marriage. The vote was 75 to 59.

“We come not to destroy marriage, but to uphold it for all,” said Rep. Barb Yarusso, DFL-Shoreview...

Democrats hold 73 of the 134 House seats, but at least two from more-conservative rural districts intended to oppose the bill. Some others have said they wouldn't discuss their vote prior to casting it.

At 75-59, that means that even with two conservative Dems against the measure, there were four Repubs in support of it! icon_cool.gif

Didn't that amendment fail in Nov 2012?

Beats me. I'm just excited for those people in Minnesota. I watched most of that debate and for a while there it wasn't looking too bright.

Wonderful. And I'm amazed by the margin - wider than any whip count I had seen before the vote. The senate vote Monday is considered to be locked up, and the governor has said he will sign it.

Now, I hope that gives Illinois the courage to move forward as well. And, perhaps I'm dreaming here, will shake the last few votes loose in New Jersey to override the veto of governor fatass? And California will join the party when the Supreme Court announces its ruling in Hollingsworth...

Yeah, maybe the speaker of the Illinois house will finally "find" those last few votes he needs. icon_lol.gif
