DESERT SKIN CARE

A few years ago, I used Lab Series skin care products. I switched to Clinique Liquid Face Wash (reg strength), Clinique Face Scrub and Clinique M Protect moisturizer (SPF 21). Last month, I moved from Southern CA to Vegas and I work in law enforcement. I've also been using Neutrogena Sunscreen (SPF 30) on my arms.

I have periodically used Aveeno Advance Recovery lotion on my body when I got out of the shower. My neighbor suggested I should use Equate Skin Care Lotion. I guess my neighbor's thought is I can get products less expensive than the above products, while doing the same care? Any thoughts or ideas on my skin care products?

Any inexpensive SPF 100 or higher works for me? Banana Boat seems to work for me. I use a vitamin C cream from Vitamin World on my face at night

I prefer mineral sunscreens, specifically zinc oxide, because they don't need to be reapplied throughout the day. The biggest misconception about sunscreen is that it will protect you from morning til night, and the other myth is that the Sun Protection Factor grows monotonically (higher SPF does not equate to higher protection).

If you plan on reapplying a chemical sunscreen any cheap one will do. Avobenzone is the most common today. Mineral sunscreens are harder to find and the cheaper they are the larger the particle, creating that white-chalky look.

I lived in PHX for eight years and still use the same sunscreens today: On my body and tattoos I use generic CVS brand mineral sunscreen. I use either the skinceuticals or Shiseido sunscreen on my face and a chemical sunscreen on my neck. Sunscreen 365 days a year is the best investment you could ever make for your skin.

I agree with you on the sunscreens I like using the zinc oxide because it has the less chalky look, so far I haven't found an organic product one that has Zinc oxide with a SPF strength higher then 15, but I hear the SPF levels from 15-30 isn't that big of a difference, and also heard that SPF 30 is the base minimum protection for UV rays.

I prefer organic products, and sorry to say organic stuff is going to be almost twice as much as what you are already paying, but I prefer not to put chemicals on my face.

To the OP If your going a cheap route, you can use olive oil as a night moisturizer, or out of the shower, just be prepared for the olive smell. You can use coconut oil too.

Stay out of the sun and drink lots of water. Use SPF+ on sun exposed skin.
Don't smoke. Don't drink alcohol to excess.

Thanks for the info. I was curious if Equate is better than Clinique for the price? Is Banana Boat really better than Clinique?
