Spermologer is obsolete? I know plenty of them. Though some prefer the more scientific sounding spermologist.

I'd contend "California widow" isn't a word, but a phrase. Obviously derived from the California Gold Rush, when men would suddenly abandoned their existing lives to travel to the gold fields. The trip itself took long weeks or months without any communication, since the railroads didn't reach the West Coast, requiring either a slow cross-country trek, often in wagon trains, or a ship voyage around South America in the pre-Panama Canal era. Many of these men never returned to their homes, and their wives were often not sure of their fate.

Resistentialism cracked me up. Although now I'll be more aware of all the spiteful objects in my life. Like my son-of-a-bitch ice cube maker.
