Part of the plan is to end the war, and spend the money it was costing on infrastructure here at home. To improve infrastructure and to increase employment SPREADING THE WEALTH (a hand up, not a hand out) A good share of these saved war funds are also planned to go toward new tech. for saving energy, and getting off of OIL, which will further employ more workers. SPREADING THE WEALTH ( a hand up, not a hand out) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Another part of the plan is to end corporate welfare for large corporations such as big oil Co.s and enhance the above plans, for research and development for alternative energy systems, miliage improvements for the auto industry, refitting for the improved systems. All of which will spur employment, SPREADING THE WEALTH (a hand up, not a hand out) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Increase taxes on those Making over $250,000 a year, and end the tax cuts of the bush era. This has to be done to start paying down the tremendous debt bush put the US economy in. The plan allows 95 percent of the working population to save on their taxes, which gives them more to spend, which in turn gets the economy moving with more money flowing, SPREADING THE WEALTH (a hand up, not a hand out) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Another major part of the plan is to for a national health care plan, which will save millions of families from ruin from medical debts and expenses so they can use their money for their needs. This too will help get the economy moving, SPREADING THE WEALTH (a hand up, not a hand out) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>His plan also intends to make college more affordable for all citizens, which will in turn improve the employability of the public, increase their incomes, which will be SPREADING THE WEALTH (a hand up, not a hand out) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>This is a much simplified version that is meant to help those who see the phrase SPREADING THE WEALTH for what it is meant to be, not a ROBINHOOD mindset taking from the rich and giving to the poor but a set of policies, and plans that open doors for average citizens so they have better opportunities for self improvement. This is not a hand out, but an opening of doors so the public is better able to help themselves. Raising the minimum wage will further this goal also. At this time in our history the Reagonomics/Bush policies have placed the wealth of the US in a very small percentage of the publics hands, very similar to that of the great depression period of our history. One of the primary reasons it lasted so long was because the masses had no money to spend, and no way to get it. HENSE Roosevelts NEW DEAL. which Obamas plan is very similar to !!! This is a change that has to happen so our economy can get moving again. There are no investors, wealthy people, or corporations stupid enough to invest in factories to build anything if there isn't demand. There will be no demand unless the public has money to buy the things they need or want. Policies have to be inacted, changes made, Government investment in infrastructure, and etc. to SPREAD THE WEALTH, so the buying public can fill their needs and wants or our country's economy will remain stagnant for a very very long time. DOES THIS SEEM SO UNREASONABLE????? LETS DISCUSS !!! I believe this plan IS A HAND UP, NOT A HAND OUT, ITS NOT TAKING FROM THE RICH TO GIVE TO THE POOR !!!! What do you think???? Why should JOE THE PLUMBER FEAR THIS???

I just took another look at Obama's economic plan, and Hope every one will too !!! This plan with investments in new technology to perfect new energy systems to get our country off of such dependence on oil could within a decade have our economy moving like it was in the 90's with the boom of computer and etc. technologies. Getting money into circulation among the spending public, from these new and ever growing number of jobs can make a difference. There is reason to look for a brighter future !!!! TAKE A LOOK AT THIS PLAN !!!! GIVE IT A CHANCE !!!!

We've been hearing that "Hand up not Handout" crap for decades now. Face the facts, it's a handout and breeds more wanting a handout which translates to millions of handouts and growing exponentially.

Obama will say anything to get elected.

    Thanks for the post, man.
It''s a pretty good synthesis of each of the different areas in which Obama's policies will affect our economy.

One big thing about his campaign that has guaranteed my support from the start is his acknowledgment of education as one of the most important factors in changing the structure of American society.

And as for the $250.000 tax thing, it makes perfect sense.
As the Manager of International Sales for his company in Houston, my uncle will see an increase of about 3% in his taxes, since he makes just a little above that number.
Considering his lifestyle and his income, he will not see a significant difference in his budget.
I, on the other hand, with my crappy part time job and with college and all that stuff, will be able to experience the difference that little tax break creates for me.

John53854358353 would say I'm getting some sort of handout, as if i was some sort of leech that's going nowhere and just loves to suck money from the government.
But that simply is not true.
The tax break will allow me to afford more books, or tuition, or housing, so I don't have to take more student loans and can start building a future easier once I graduate.
And when I'm an engineer and make the $250.000 that my uncle is making, i will gladly give back that money in the form of higher taxes so other people can participate in the same kind of opportunities that i received.

I don't see the problem in that at all.
It's not as if I was taking money from the government and buying me a $150.000 dollar dress to look pretty...
Oh, but wait, I am planning on donating it once I'm done wearing it, so it's all good, right?

ohh. so the 700 billion dollar(more like a trillion after interest since we are borrowing all of it) bailout was not a handout? Regan's trickle down economics is not a hand out to the rich? And what is this "hand outs breed more handouts" BS. Did you ever wonder if it works the other way also with corporate tax cuts and farming subsidies? The financial crisis was created by republican deregulation of mortgage backed securities. John436564 If you are going to make an arguement, make one that has some substance.

John, I want to personally thank you for the handouts I get. I mean, my paycheck and all its benefits are paid by taxes. I get up to $4700 per fiscal year for college education or technical training/certification. Free medical care. Thank you so much for the goodies.

And by the way, you're quite welcome for the $600 you got back this year. My taxes helped pay for that, even though it could be argued that it's a gimmick. Oh yeah, you're welcome for the veterans paycheck you get every month for life. If you didn't get THAT handout, I don't know if you would be able to make it. I mean, don't you already live in the bad part of Toledo? With all the pregnant women and crack dealers around that you have told us about? If you didn't get that paycheck, you'd probably live in a cardboard box, if you could even afford that.

All in all, I just wanted to personally thank you for the handouts so that you'll be more familiar with the term "handouts" on a personal level, instead of just stereotyping them as those pregnant women and crack dealers in your Toledo neighborhood.

"Obama will say anything to get elected."

Have you not been paying attention to McCain and Palin? They lie. Lie. Then lie some more. That ticket is running the sleaziest campaign in history. Obama certainly wants to get elected, but so too does McCain. Don't pretend his campaign is holier than thou.

I still will not vote for Obama.

I happen to live in Toledo in an inner city neighborhood. Many of my neighbors are voting for Obama. I have no problem with that. Yes I see some of what John is talking about, but when you cross party lines and you are true community organizers, you get things done.

The bf is a Republican like me and got a crack den of a park rebuilt into a beautiful area that hosts many events now. His political background meant nothing to the ability to get the park fixed. It was his personality and his willingness to take a stand on issues.

I personally don't see Obama as that kind of uniter, just another divider. But again I pretty much don't think he will do much damage to me personally but I see many of my friends preparing for unemployment regardless of who is in office because the taxes the rich will have to pay will be spread down to all of us. Somehow the rich will get richer off this and we will be the same and those below will suffer. Unless you go into communism, you will never eliminate the poor or prevent the rich from getting richer.

    *****************
    On another note.

I think the chart is nice but remember when the decreases happened the most was when there was a Democrat in office but the congress was all Republican and conversely when the congress was Democrat was when the debt went through the roof.

Republicans made the policies that helped the national debt go down is what I get out of that chart.

So if everyone can do their part and get the Democrat elected to the presidency and remove many Democrats from Congress then we can start to see the numbers go down. Otherwise see them go up or stay the same.

Congress makes the laws, the President can only rubber stamp them or reject them.

Plus is that adjusted for inflationary rates? I would be curious to see the chart with an adjustment.

    ****************

I happen to feel sorry for Joe. Obama went onto his property and started a conversation and all the guy did is ask a honest question. Obama answered and now we have "spread the wealth".

I personally believe that we should freely give to whom we want and not be forced to give to those programs we don't believe in. Pretty simple philosophy for my life. I would like to have money so I could give to charity one day, not be a charity case to pay my taxes.

I would just assume throw myself to a school of tiger sharks to accept a hand out. Period If I can't get it on my own then it's not meant for me to have.

Some of us have way to much pride to accept hand outs and would just assumne die before doing.

I would like for the playing field to be fair and equal and it not on any level and that is what Obama's message is about.

It's either people are to afraid to see that or they don't want to see.

I after checking my investments during this mess, I have lost 3 mortgage payments worth in my investments and in my 401k which before this mess started I was doing ok! Under the republican plan I would loose more and that's just CRAZY!

This my retirement not income that I can just dispose of. Am I to believe that McCain's plan is going to benefit me.

The last time I checked my name was not Joe and I'm not a plumber....oh wait neither is he.

    Unfortunately,

You invested in the stock market. Much like Vegas, there is no promise of return. Like most investments, you hope they go up, but there is a known risk that they also, unfortunately, go down.

That is risk. Maybe not as risky as Vegas, but the odds are always there. There is no chance for reward without risk of loss.

    Vegas. Stock market, whatever.

In Palins Alaska, as governor she increased taxes on big oil in her state, and increased by $1500 a yearly payment to families, up to approximately $3,000.00. I understand every family in Alaska gets this money, it comes from a fund the state collects specificly from oil company profits so its citizens can share in the states oil wealth. isn't this SPREADING THE WEALTH ???? this program of hers actually is more socialistic than what Obama is proposing. I read about this on MSNBC, does anyone have more details on the subject???

Ducky and I are on the same page here. I want a better playing field. The current one is set up to rob the poor and middle class to fatten the rich.

I, almost to a fault, turn down handouts. I still haven't cashed the three personal checks my boss started giving me each month because the company hasn't implemented a health plan yet (<50 employees and in TX...bad combo). Something in me just cannot cash them.

But apparently since I'm voting for Obama I'm a lazy, low-income beggar. F*cking Obama haters will say anything, apparently. Talk about desperate times for that group. They're on the wrong side of history and cannot do a thing about it.

Hey, if Obama, who I am voting for, levels the playing field, I am all for it. I have no clue what that means, but I am all for it. But I am always for a level playing field. But...

What is the playing field? I am sure that is a metaphor for something but I am not really sure what? Really. What does that mean? We all start life with rich parents? We all go to great colleges and make the same great connections? We all start with the same abilities to progress in life? We all do great in high school? What is this level playing field that everyone talks about? I played rugby. I boxed and wrestled in high school and college. Those were level fields. Same field, literally, for everyone. Same boxing ring or wrestling mat for everyone. Literally.

Can someone explain to me how Barack or anyone will "level" the playing fields in life for everyone? So that a less than bright guy, like me, will be as successful as the really bright guys on here.

    Just curious.
