This is a common misconception that needs clearing up....

    THIS......
    frankenstein-jj-001.jpg

is NOT Frankenstein. OK?! This is Frankenstein's monster. Frankenstein is the name of the doctor who creates the monster. So for all of the people who dressed up looking like the thing in that photo - no, you are NOT dressed up as Frankenstein.

Frankenstein never refers to the monster as his son. A wretch, a devil, an abomination, yes. On the other side the Monster never refers to Victor as his father, only as his creator.

The Monster wouldn't actually look like that, either. For starters it had long black hair, and grey eyes. After all, Frankenstein mashed up various corpses he could find.

In the novel, the creature has no name. He does call himself "the Adam of your labours" when speaking to Frankenstein at one point. And uses the name Adam in several non-canon (not official or authorized) sequels or apperences. He was left nameless to symbolize his parentlessness and lack of human sense of self and identity, at least according to my old english prof (and wikipedia).

and frankenstein is gay, right? I mean, he looks for pieces of men to create the perfect man. If he were straight he would build a girl, not a man. right?

    metropolitan, you cheeky you!

Frankenstein made a bride for his monster, so we think he was straight or he would have made a BF for him.

    heheh.

Good point! The sequel to the original Frankenstein movie was called The Bride of Frankenstein (1935). She was clearly identified as the "mate" of the monster. She certainly wasn't Baron von Frankenstein's intended wife.

So clearly this line has been blurred from the very beginning by moviemakers, at least, if not strictly true to the original novel. I'm afraid this is one of those cases where the OP may be technically correct, but he's swimming upstream against many decades of widespread popular usage.

While we're getting naming issues off our chest...

For those of you dressing up this year as a Koala -- it's not a "Koala Bear" Koalas are not bears -- they are marsupials. You are going as a Koala.

    ...

OK, I admit that was a stretch to connect to a Halloween/Frankenstein thread, but Delivis's posts always activate unpredictable parts of my brain.
