How does this happen? I thought Realjock was a closed website. I'm not sure this is a great idea.

Oh I don't like that either. I bet there's nothing the site will do about it though. The only thing we could do is change our screen name to something unique to this site.

I just googled mine and only 2 links have to do with me. Seems ShawnTX isn't all that original for a screen name.

RJ isn't a closed website. You can read the forums without being a member, you just can't post to them.

Yep, did the same thing for me. Another reason I'd rather not use my face pic for my main photo, and keep my other photos Private.

Oh, and of all my posts, why does it have to be the one about me buying beer at the corner store, and zdrew paying me for sex with a cup of coffee!!! (and not even the good stuff)

Google crawls the web and indexes content even on websites like RealJock that require registration and login. The forum contents are public.

Websites can prevent google from indexing by putting specific instructions on their web server (a file called robots.txt). But unless there is reason to keep content from being indexed, most websites don't.

This is especially true for a website that actively markets itself like RJ does. Finding interesting content on a google search is one of the ways people find RJ.

The thing is, and I have said this many times, RealJock does not require a registration and login. To the best of my knowledge, the only thing you need a registration for, is to post to forums. Apart from that anyone can look at your profile, and read the forums. If I'm wrong about this, please correct me.

And Redheadguy, what's the problem icon_question.gif What have you got to hide icon_question.gif

This thing about googling screen names is not new. I've had a guy on here ask me to change or delete some of my posts where I quoted him because of this.

The Internet is not a hiding place, you know.

Hey MikePhil, there's a way to block non-members from viewing your profile.

It's a button in preferences to allow only members and not the general public to peek at you.

    That's true. I forgot.

But everyone can read the forums.

MikePhil said What have you got to hide

It may not be that the person has something to hide, as in the person is doing anything bad. But just being exposed as being gay can cause problems in one's life. We have one fellow on RJ who has threaded how he was fired for being outted.

So a participate on RJ may have a legitimate reason for not wanting to be pulled on RJ up in a google search.

Although an obscure enough online handle would seem to enough protection, for example: caslon7000, who would google that to find out about me. Nobody.

... a few months ago i noticed this and i subtly changed my handle here in rj. My original handle was so googleable that you can easily trace it back to my real name... not so good... you never know especially since employers now scour the net for crap to hang prospective employees on.

I know and I understand that Cas. That's why I obliged that guy that asked me to remove his name. He gave me all the links and I just deleted his name off all my posts. I would do that for anyone on here.

I'm just having a go at redheadguy because he was rude to me, and if he had any cop on, he would know this can happen icon_rolleyes.gif

My advice to anyone that may lose their job or something like that because of just being gay, is block your profile from nonmembers, have a complicated screen name, with no reference to your real name, and only have a face pic in your privates. You can always unlock those pic's to who you wish, or to all RJ members. Also remember, not all RJ members are here for the same reason as you.

That is why I have changed my username more than once. I found out that by hitting the Google link it goes right into the RJ forums. What I right on the forums is for the consumption of RJ members and nobody else. I don't think a 13 year old straight kid would learn much from what I have posted.

I have lots to hide. I'm a secret KGB agent acting on behalf of Smirnoff and I'm infiltrating this site to hunt down all the rogue gay agents in the United States.

That's because google is amazing. Your name is private on here but not your screen name. You can type an anyone's name in google and find stuff out. I do it all the time.

Sure do. You can find out anything just by google. I work in the medical field so I sometimes just want to know what these people do for a living etc. . .
    Google their name.

I don't think that's an option. What ever you post to a forum is viewable by the world. Well, it's not like we're plotting to take over the world or anything. Are we icon_question.gificon_wink.gif

I just done some googling of my name and when you have a business and listings on some websites, and a screen name on RJ that is almost your real name, you should be more careful icon_lol.gif

I guess I'm just not careful enough icon_confused.gif

Whoa...there's an imposter zdrew out there. I should send out a cease and desist order or file a copyright infringement suit or something, cuz it's a manga website. Whatever that is, it doesn't sound sexy.

Curiously, the only two RJ threads that popped up in my (admittedly brief) google search were ones with my screenname in the title of the thread. I saw no evidence of having paid Shawnypoo for sex with bad coffee.
