Has anyone ever been in a really bad car accident?

I crashed into a recycling truck that was parked in the middle of the road. I know, how do you not see a big truck in the road? I live in the country, and there is a really long road that goes straight and lasts about 10 minutes. anyways, on that road at 7:30 AM the sun is incredibly bright and thats all you can see until you make it onto the main road.

I had no sunglasses and no visor in my car (it was broken) I could only see the yellow dashes on the road. What I should have done was pulled over and waited for the sun to chill out but I just started a new job and had only been working there for a month and was running late ( I was really sick the night before and missed my alarm in the morning) the speed limit on the road was 55mph and I was going 50. I never imagined there would be a freaking recycling truck parked in the middle of a 55mph road. there were houses, but he wasn't parked in front of one... So with no trash for him to pick up, what the hell was he doing just sitting in the road? my sister thinks he was in the woods peeing since its such a long road. But still, you don't park in the road. that's what the grass is for.

Anyways, I ran into the truck at 50mph and heard a lot of noise then I saw something fly at my face so I dove to the left side of my seat. Thank goodness for good reflexes. I say it was my years of gaming icon_razz.gif the thing that flew at my face was the truck. it literally crashed through my window shield and came into my car. The fire fighter that got me out of the car said if I hadn't dove to the other side my head would have been squished...

I broke my elbow, I think it was the truck that broke it. Cause after I dove I through my right arm up to block my face. My elbow shattered into pieces and I now have a metal plate where my elbow was.

I start physical therapy tomorrow so wish me luck! I'm a dancer and I kinda need my arm to dance lol My doctor said that as long as I do everything my physical therapist says, my arm will be just as good as it was before. Regardless, I'm still worried. I've been dancing for years and its what I love to do.

Damn. I was trying to post a picture of my car but I cant figure it out icon_sad.gif if anyone knows how to post a picture on the forums please let me know.

Well that sucks. Hope you get better. I've been in 2 accidents and thankfully neither were bad, just got struck by another car. But my mom did have an accident coming off an expressway exit where she lost control and she was bruised and sprained and had to go to physical therapy.

Thank you icon_smile.gif Ironically, a month before the accident I was talking to my friend and I told her " I've never been in a car accident, never broken a bone, and never had surgery." I took care of all 3 in one shot.

    Get well soon!

I've been in one accident. I was in the left lane because I had a left exit coming up and crashed into a stalled van on a bridge - dude didn't even have his blinkers on. I saw it in time to slam on the brakes and steer out of a head on collision but hit the front corners of my car on the van and the guardrail. I figure I hit at about 40 mph. Unfortunately the car behind me broadsided the right side of my car. Thankfully I had no passenger because he would have sustained some very serious injuries. I was ok except for a chipped tooth and three pieces of glass in me. My first and only trip in an ambulance and to an ER.

A couple years later I was moving to another state so was towing my truck behind the UHaul. I was planning to camp inside Mammoth Cave National Park that night and was inside park grounds when I noticed a truck just like mine passing me. Then I noticed it had no driver and was "oh shit, that is my truck!" It had come off the tow dolly. There was nobody coming the other direction, so it eventually jumped the ditch and slammed into a tree. It was just like new after a week visit to the body shop.

When I was in 5th grade I think, it could have been earlier, a school bus rear ended my mom's Honda Accord when we were turning into the entrance of the school. I was in the back and we were OK but we did have some whiplash and headaches. I don't think we did any HUGE legal action but we may have had some sort of a settlement with the school district. It was scary and that car was strong.

I remember receiving letters from classmates wishing me well icon_biggrin.gif it was sweet

Well I'm glad to hear you're okay icon_smile.gif this accident was my first trip in an ambulance too. The driver got me to the hospital in like 2 minutes lol he was fast.

Yeah I have been calling people to say thank you since I got out of the hospital. I have lots of cards icon_biggrin.gif

One thing that I learned is, airbags smell horrible! I remember sitting in my car waiting for help and wanting to throw up from the airbags smell.

Perhaps air bags should be pre-loaded with Chanel #5. A pleasant scent would make waiting for the ambulance more tolerable.

The only bad accident Ive been in was when I hit a concrete barrier at about 50 kph. I was taking a curve and hit some gravel and the car slid right out and hit this concrete barrier that was part of a merge lane. I hit it on the passenger side, but it crushed the driver side in due to the offset impact forces. I broke a motor mount, the rad, the front axle, the driver side door wouldnt open, I hit my head on the roof, and the grille flew out of the car. It was a total loss. The airbags never deployed, which is probably a good thing. I hurt my back quite badly, reversed the curvature of my spine, and twisted my pelvis. I'm still dealing with the pain and repercussions 5 years later, but Im in much better shape now.

Well um when i was 16 my boyfreind and two other freinds picked me up and i wanted shotgun so of course my bf traded seats. We were in a camry and we were driving down the interstate and my freind slammed on the breaks and a truck rear ended us and.... well um it killed my boyfreind and one of his freinds. Woke up three weeks later with a broken arm, broken nose and brain trauma hence the coma ,cut up face and upper body which left a few scars mainly on my shoulders and chest. And learning that i i lost him really fucked me up. I felt so guilty and yea i blamed myself for a long while, sometimes i think about it and hate myself for wanting shotgun. As for my freind dylan he was ok he was driving. Maybe it's stupid for me to feel so guilty? ....Thats what i'm left with...a fear of interstates and trucks and feeling very guilty.

When I was 16, three buddies and I were coming from a high school basketball on a snowy night. When we rounded a bend my friend lost control of the car around a bend on a patch of ice...we hit the curb and went airborne into a Fiat car dealership and landed on the roof of a new Fiat Spyder. There was a domino effect so that fiat slammed into the next Fiat, and so on, and so on. My '68 Camaro was totalled, as were 4 new Fiats. I was in a huge amount of trouble with my Dad for letting my friend drive my car, but luckily none of us had a scratch on us

Hope the physical therapy goes well. Keep us updated.

I hit a motorcyclist once, and threw him over the bonnet. Not fast, but then it doesn't need to be. It was morning, it had been raining, and the sun suddenly came out. I wear glasses while driving, and for an instant, the light shone off the ground and flashed across the glass. That was enough. Luckily he wasn't hurt too bad.
Now I make sure to stop I'd the visibility ever goes like that, and just wait it out.

I was sitting at a red light - 5th car in line. The light was taking so long, so I just leaned back with my head against the headrest. I crossed my arms and just kept my eyes ahead to wait for the light to change. Nobody was behind me - - - - and I never saw the full sized Mercury coming at me from behind, with what turned out to be a driver who'd had a stroke. She never took her foot off the gas and hit me full speed, which the police determined to be approx. 40 mph. I remember hearing this crash and being pushed forward into the car in front of me - crushing him into the three cars in front of him. All 5 cars were smashed into each other. My arms were crossed so that protected my chest. My knees and legs went into the dash. The dashboard and the steering column were smashed. I ended up facing the ceiling when the seat broke. The car looked like a train hit it - from both ends. I was so lucky - - - -just bruises. They pulled me out and I was basically fine. I'm lucky I was in a big car with headrests or I might be either dead, or in a wheelchair. All the other people sustained various injuries. Also - it was good that I didn't see the car coming at me - - - I might have tensed up and been worse off.

Lol I agree. My friend suggested fresh flowers. They should also add glitter that way when the airbag explodes I'll be in my very own gay wonder land

I hurt my head too. the whole front of my car went underneath the truck so the ceiling caved in and hit my head. I couldn't remember where I worked and had trouble remembering my families cell phone numbers at the hospital so the nurse could call. I get occasional headaches but its still healing.

I am soooo sorry icon_sad.gif it wasn't your fault though. There was no way of knowing what was going to happen. You shouldn't blame yourself.

I'm glad I was alone on the day of the accident. The passenger side was completely squished, there was only a small space that wasn't messed up. I don't think anyone would have survived icon_sad.gif

I was in an auto wreck when I was 12, visiting America around Christmas time. A drunk driver crossed the center line and hit us head on. My friend lost his dad, who was driving, and my own best friend here in the States bled to death in my arms before help came.

You could be my best friend or my one true love, but if you ever drink and drive I would be the first to take the witness stand against you.
