This makes complete sense to me. So many people never do a good job cleaning their ass and then jump in the pool. Of course particulate matter is going to get into the water. Thinks of the kids especiallyicon_smile.gif People need to shower or wash off before plunging into the water.

As the article mentioned...the tests showed the presence of genetic material for certain Bacteria...it didn't say they were viable or not.

Then there are the fish pooping in rivers and the ocean...icon_rolleyes.gif

I worked at a pool for years. If you've never worked at one, you'd be surprised how often people just drop a deuce in the pool.

It's why pools are chlorinated, gentlemen.

I like to pretend that isn't real, but it is. At least there is chlorine in my pools. I also avoid pools that children swim in. I lifeguarded and know the nastiness of that water. icon_eek.gif

I avoid pools with children, as well. And I really hate when I see a guy just pass under the locker room shower while already wearing his swim suit, not using any soap, just a quick rinse. That doesn't remove any crap from his ass, just flushes his hair and shoulders a little.

Back in the day there would be signs saying "Soapy Shower In The Nude Before Entering Pool". In fact, for pools with men or boys only, like at the Y, you stayed nude, one of the several stated reasons being to maintain pool sanitation against dirty suits. And the lifeguards & attendants would stop you if you weren't dripping wet when you entered the pool deck. Maybe they were right all along. icon_confused.gif

That's gross sounding but anyone who ever swam in a lake or river or bay probably has come in contact with nasty stuff too.

Just think of it as rimming everyone you're swimming with. icon_eek.gif

But even if everyone showers it just takes one person to fart in the water and BAM! you're swimming in human waste particles. Multiply that by all the others who are farting in the water and the guys whose sphincters aren't as tight as they once were LOL and you're swimming in a cess pool.

This is much ado about nothing. I've been swimming in private and public pools for years and have managed to remain alive. I think the immune system was designed to handle this sort of thing.

What I don't like is hot tubs. To me, that's just sitting in human stew.

My skin would get wrecked by the overchlorinated water at the Y (think about it - senior citizen laps in the morning, water aerobics (seniors) later, then infant swim classes, and everyone else in between, few of whom would shower before entering) so I switched to a gym with a lightly used 75 foot indoor lap pool - much better!

    You wouldn't notice overchlorination.

What you proably notice is UNDER chlorination, where the sanitizer is not sufficient to handle the bather load. That's when it smells all chlorine-y.

I'll go in a public pool, but I have refused to go in a public hot tub since I actually had to maintain one of my own. Even my only little spa got filthy, it's hard to keep up the water chemistry in such a small volume. God only knows what's growing in public hot tubs.

Unless you drink it, and are immunocompromised, you'll be fine. The skin is an amazing barrier, and your immune system is an amazing defense against even a large microbial load.

    Just EW!!!

Well so much for me claiming not to be into scat play. Never realized that I was "scatting" every time I swam. icon_eek.gif

If you swim in the ocean, then you're swimming in fish poo and sperm, not to mention all of the human waste and fecal particulates, so I guess the public pool isn't too bad.

I think we should enforce mandatory "butt plugs" for public pools that way they don't shart in the pool or have those explosive diarrhea mishaps. Why the hell would you go swimming if you have explosive diarrhea?icon_mad.gif

Ha, exactly! It's time to update my manhunt profile :p

Though has everyone forgotten that pools are also filled with urine from people who are just too lazy to get out of the pool?

So don't drink the pool water. Duh.

Do I need to link a study to show that pool water is also full of chlorine or saline, too? You're not supposed to be drinking it.

During swim team we would pee in the pool, puke in the gutter. It was horrible but we really didn't care.
