I'm kinda average looking, so I rarely get replies from hot guys. Occasionally one does, and they send me a short friendly reply with the smiley ":$" at the end. Some of these guys have that smiley at the end of every other sentence in their profile. Technically it's the "confused" smiley... but the context of it makes me think that it's just a subtle way of saying that they're for-pay/rent boys. Is this true?

I honestly think its just an emoticon, nothing more. Usually when people are trying to make money, they'll use key words like "genourous" and stuff. I, not positive though.

    ... what?
First of all, :S is a confused smilie, not :$. :$ is a blushing smilie, and has been since the age-old days of MSN Messenger.
Second of all, what even led you to think that it's a symbol of prostitution? These guys, if they're responding with it to you, are actually flattered by what you're saying.

I'm pretty sure he thought it was a symbol of prostitution because of the "$" (dollar sign).

... that would make a surprising amount of sense.
