I was in a gay bar with my husband, and this guy kept staring at me, almost non-stop, like he knew me. And I wondered if he recognized me from RealJock.

I didn't recognize him, from RJ or anywhere else, and so didn't speak to him.

But for gawd's sake, if you ever think you recognize me, will you please SAY SOMETHING?

In the past guys here have said they saw me here in South Florida, but said nothing. WTF not??? I just don't understand that. If I thought I knew you from RJ I'd sure as Hell say hello. icon_confused.gif

    Don't stress yourself...
some people stare at you just because they find you either interesting or curious or annoying or reminds them of some other person...there are several other reasons I could think of...

Just give them a smile, if they are interested they'll surely come to you...
because when you smile at someone, you'll look extremely friendly and easy for them to approach.
If they didn't come to you, you can always ignore...
if they did come to you, you'll know the reason why they're staring at you.

He was trying to get your attention.

I have to say that this is the most annoying thing about the gay hookup/cruising/dating ritual. It's like a guy will stare intensely at you. And when you notice and look his way, he'll turn away. And when you go back to doing your thing, he'll stare again. And this will continue until you make a move or play along with the staring game.

JUST COME UP, SMILE, AND SAY HELLO. PLEASE.

If a guy doesn't have enough balls to come up to me and act like a normal human being and just say hi,then stay the fuck away from me because you're probably some sort of psycho nut job

That happened to me today, too. At the gym. Maybe something got into the water down here?

it's more probable that you just happened to be situated somewhere along his direct line of sight to a video display monitor which created the illusion that he was staring at you...maybe there was a game on, or perhaps a Sean Cody video was playing

I would absolutely love to catch a guy staring at me. I've never had the experience but I fantasize about it constantly. Sigh...that would feel so so nice.

    <3 the Slenderman mythos.

Also when I feel someone is staring at me, the mantra I force through my mind is, "don't flatter myself".

Actually I was smiling, as I usually am in a gay bar. Though I've also learned not to assume it's me he's looking at, and have gotten embarrassed by making that wrong assumption a few times.

Because he could also be looking at a TV screen, or a hundred other things behind you, and you just happen to be in his line of sight. And I've done that myself, with guys getting mad because they thought I was being rude for staring at them, when I was barely conscious of them, looking at something else entirely.

But in my OP instance there was nothing behind or near me, he was clearly staring directly at me, and checking me out. Given that I'm not attractive (maybe my unattractiveness is what fascinated him), and was with my husband, it did puzzle and kinda disconcert me.

I think it was a come-on, but he noticed the husband, and still wanted to let you know you were the focus of his attention.
