How much muscle is important to you in a guy?

I have gotten into exercising around January of 2012. All I really did was crunches 3 days a week (3-4-5 sets of 30-35-40, it varied). Even though I didn't see results quickly, I noticed I did develop my abs. Honestly, I was in no hurry, I just wanted to see if I could stick to the routine and was so surprised and happy I could.

I still do this routine now and I'm going to be adding push ups, squats (tried them for the first time and while it was a challenge, I can see myself sticking with them) and when I buy some dumbbell weights, bicep curls and the like. The thing is, I'm not looking to alter my body to become a big muscle god. Just tone and add a bit of mess. Put a tiny bit of mass on my pecs, thighs, and butt. It's going to take some time but I'm doing my best and I'm being patient, I'm in no hurry at all.

My question is, how much muscle is important to you in a guy? It'd be interesting to hear all the different opinions. icon_smile.gif With the obvious degree that you got along with said guy quite well.

I think muscle is attractive to me, and certainly grabs my attention over any other body type (well, I like the muscle bear look). However, I'd never expect someone to meet a minimum requirement of having muscle. Staying in shape and respecting your body are plus's though.

Then again I do like big ol' teddy bears from time to time. Still find more muscle/athletic men more attractive!

I prefer definition over mass. It just looks and feels better.

not that much important, I don't find the super-buff steroid look to be hot !
I guess if the guy is nice-proportionate to his weight/height would be sexy. Not too skinny, not to buff, toned, thin, skinny like a swimmer/runner build. I don't know I guess I have to see him naked in the bedroom to determine if he's Hot or not. icon_redface.gif

Depends on the guy. What works for some doesn't always work for others.

I mean, I like muscle and I don't think for 99% of guys there is an issue with them being too muscular.

That said, I've met plenty of lovely people that don't work out at all and none of my previous boyfriends did

Not really fond of huge guys- in fact I'd probably say low bf % with a little bit of size is what really gets my dick tingling.

No such thing as too big.
Each to his own, and exceptions crop up to every 'rule'. But in an ideal guy give me freakishly huge juice boxes any day.

Not too many bodybuilders have that ripped, tight and six-pack look all year long. It's too unhealthy and extremely hard to maintain even while on a cycle.

I like the off-season bodybuilder look, myself. That's where the guy has big muscles but also a little extra padding over the muscles. They're kind of like muscle bears or power lifters - big and brawny.

    lol fair enough.

    DudeinNOVAGo big, or GTFO.

Yeesh I remember seeing this pic before. As much as I like muscle, that is just too much for me. I'm not really into the whole ultra-defined ripped look. But that's just me. lol

This statement is true, I agree. But what about you? What do you personally like??

I get what you mean. The man in the picture has a nice body in my opinion as well.

Understandable. It's kind of a surprise to me because it seems like it's the norm for the instant like on the gym bunny types.

That's awesome. I've been trying to find a meaning for this kind of body and I think yours explained it eloquently. I am also a big fan of the off season bodybuilder look. Personally, the ultra defined bodybuilder (the ones you see in the competitions & magazines) don't do anything for me at all but the off-season bodybuilder is what drives me wild in the head. Nice visual picture too, he looks awesome.

Interesting answers guys. I think I'll share my 2 cents on what I like.

To me, heavily ripped bodies like this.. FouadAbiad-eMM-JasonBreeze-633.jpg

These kinds of looks while impressive, just don't do it for me at all. My favorite muscle or in this case, bodybuilder types, are exactly how He_Man described.

    off-season-bodybuilder-18.jpg

    off-season-bodybuilder-12.jpg

Pretty much types like that. I don't know why. I know you're supposed to be trained to like the competitions ones but they just don't do it for me. Plus, this could be because I'm a big thigh and pec guy icon_redface.gif And after meeting a guy with an off-season bodybuilder look who actually liked my build, tainted me even more since I like size difference lol.

But just like I like the off-season bodybuilder, I do like the gym-jock who is not ultra defined either and the for lack of better term, "muscle twink" or slim/lean guy who works out.
