Something similar happened to me 34 years ago . After being badly injured in an airplane crash in Greece , my Dad flew all the way down from Queensland Australia , and stayed until i was released from the hospital 3 months later ..My mum had passed away 2 years prior , and my older brother was killed in a car accident 1 year after my mum death and then me , poor dad ! .. When i opened my eyes after 1 month of induced coma , the first thing i saw was his smile .. I never seen my dad with a sad face , even in the worst of things , he always is wearing a smile , but i am quite sure he bundles everything inside . He is going to turn 87 this coming July , and still going strong . All the kindness that i was given by my family and strangers while they were taken care of my well being , really changed my way of seeing the good in people , and for that i always will be thankful !
I was luckier than you were , as the airline company i was working for at the time , gave me back my position , paid for all my medical expenses and arranged for my dad airplane ticket and lodging ( it was considered as a work related accident as i was being transferred from Paris to Athens to rejoin my flight crew-mates ) ...6 months later i was flying again , i worked one more year with A.F , before to go back to OZ and started to work for Qantas ..
