When gays and lesbians are featured in popular culture, what do we see? White, wealthy women who host talk shows or affluent men doting on their kids -- like Mitchell and Cameron from "Modern Family." That's because for prudent, hypocritical, homophobic straighy society, the ones with the money are the only acceptable ones. And we watch tv to escape into a temporary fantasy world, the last thing we want to see is the things we have to struggle with daily.

I'm afraid I hold to a gay stereotype, in which gays are more artistically sensitive, less practical. And hard-nosed practical is what usually earns the most money in today's world. I'm ready to get beat up over that observation.
